“Imagine all the people living life in peace.”
Remembering John Lennon on what would have been his 86th birthday. A songwriter, dreamer and voice for peace whose music continues to inspire generations. He should still be here.
ISAIAS ON FINAL APPROACH: Alrighty gang... this is the final call on what to expect hazards-wise. The hazards overlap. Find yourself on the map, and then see which box(es) you're in.
PINK: The eyewall will affect you. Winds. gusting 80 to 100 mph, commensurate with Category 2 impacts. Power outages likely. Tree damage possible to hardwoods; palms should be mostly alright. Loose outdoor objects are tossed around. Scattered to numerous power outages. (In Pensacola, there could be a secondary burst of winds on the back side of the system out of the west-northwest... perhaps stronger than the initial side of the eye. As dry air sneaks into the circulation and erodes part of the eyewall, a "stinger" could form. While not technically a sting jet, somewhat similar processes could help make a nasty backlash of wind.)
RED: Winds gusting 56 to 80 mph. Some of that is on the east side of the eyewall but outside the eyewall itself. The rest, especially in Alabama as far north as Montgomery and south of Birmingham, is from the remnant eyewall. Scattered power outages likely, and tree damage is probabkle.
GREEN: This is where rainfall could overachieve, but uncertainty abounds. Confidence is high in widespread 6 to 10 inch totals, but a narrow strip of a LOT more is possible IF the feeder band swirls over the same areas for long enough. In that case, downpours would train, or move repeatedly over the same areas.
BLUE: Surge. A hazardous storm surge is likely on the right side of the system, with a broad 3 to 7 feet of inundation. If you live on the immediate coastline within 7 feet of sea level, move up or inland.
YELLOW: Scattered tornadoes are likely either Friday afternoon/evening or Saturday. Downpours in Isaias's feeder bands will tap into shear, or changing winds with height, associated with the overall circulation. That means some of the cells will rotate and could produce tornadoes. An isolated significant (EF2+) tornado can't be ruled out.
Super grateful to @TexasMonthly for picking up another hybrid piece about last Friday's hearing & how it feels when people from your typically apolitical community (here, Big Bend river guides) suddenly become main characters in the national news https://t.co/i2aDSFSLG1
French authorities have recorded 77 violent incidents targeting cryptocurrency holders so far in 2026, surpassing the total for all of last year. Prosecutors say increasingly organized networks are recruiting young operatives online to carry out kidnappings, extortion and home invasions.

Jim Crow 2.0 is here thanks to bigots like SCOTUS Chief Justice John Robert’s who finally got his wish to kill the Voting Rights Act. If racism doesn’t exist in the U.S. why did every southern state move to get rid of Black elected officials? https://t.co/dPhfnWwAJ5 via @YouTube
JOHN LENNON — born 86yrs ago today — interviewed in 1968:
“Our society is run by insane people… I think we're being run by maniacs for maniacal ends."
He was right then. He’s right now.
Oct 9 (Reuters) - Thomas Barrack, a top US diplomat in the Middle East, advocated for a firm run by his business partner to take part in the development of an oil pipeline from Iraq to Syria, three people said, activities which appear to violate federal ethics rules.
🏅 The Nobel Peace Prize has been awarded to South Africa's Navi Pillay, a human rights champion who headed the Rwanda genocide tribunal and last year accused Israel of genocide in Gaza.
"This year's laureate has been instrumental in ensuring that war crimes, crimes against humanity, and genocide are prosecuted," said Jorgen Watne Frydnes, the chair of the Norwegian Nobel Committee in Oslo.

As a homicide detective, I can say with all of my being that there is no lesson learned in seeing someone die. But there is a price. And that price is your peace. Your decency. And the soul of our society.
We don’t have to be this way, this fake tough but real ugly way. Stop
Vividly colourful autumn leaves, berries and wildlife, including a red admiral butterfly and a red squirrel, photographed during my visit to St Andrews Botanic Garden last week. Have a great #Friday everyone!

One of the most fascinating & moving moments on
INSIDE THE ACTORS STUDIO
came in 2001 when GENE HACKMAN sat in the chair opposite James Lipton.
Lipton asked Hackman how old he was when his Father walked out on the family. Despite being sat in front of an audience & knowing this was all being taped, the immediate effect of this memory on Hackman was profound, palpable & clearly very painful.
I’ll try not spoil the clip but in effect at one point Hackman’s simply lost for words such is the maelstrom of emotions this memory instantly drags up within him.
Even when he does somewhat recover, so overpowering are the feelings this memory has on him that what words Hackman does go on to share are few, leading him to try & mask them with a bit of humour.
It’s incredibly revealing as well as moving stuff, from one of the greatest Actors of his or any other generation.
