@tetheredtoed1 If schools could/would simply provide the specialized instruction needed and the number of minutes to achieve that instruction, that would be spectacular. Many students are still not being provided the very basic services.
@AllisonETEC Potentially dumb question, is there a federal law that says that all kids have to receive their grade level tier 1 instruction? What about kids whose skills are so low they cannot access the knowledge being taught, not independently anyway.
@Mom80807103 You need more than just a para or a teacher pushing in. When you factor in the 10+ kids in primary, there has to be at least one para for each end and one that floats between to fill the gaps. /2
@Mom80807103 It should be determined by those and the sheer number of students on IEPs. If you have a 150 student school with 12 or 13 on IEPs in 4th and 5th grade alone, with at least two needing replacement curriculum for one or more subjects 1/
@educator4ever36@Mom80807103 I had a student that was functioning at a first grade level in the fourth grade. Parents never authorized retention, attendance issues made sped a no-go. This will be the same in fifth grade and they will go to MS w/skills years below gl. It’s not unusual.
@Mom80807103@educator4ever36 The conundrum I faced with that was our weekly PLC. In order to assess the same stuff, I had to be keeping pace with my colleagues. I took more time in CKLA Unit 2, which made me way behind my colleague and kept us from being able to do the CFMs needed.
@educator4ever36 The child is not ELL or have attendance issues. If there are attendance issues, you’re SOL. We’re locked into instruction that isn’t working for the kids, but told to follow the teacher’s guide and teach the curriculum. Curriculum not kids. /2
@educator4ever36 In elementary, we are locked into pacing guides and flow charts that determine interventions. Interventions not working? Go to a team, fill out a lengthy document, adjust things, go back in six weeks. Still not working, maybe get referred for testing if 1/2
@AllisonETEC He knows I can and will check it from time to time. One kid plays airplane games and the other Dress to Impress or some garden game. I don’t feel like it is any worse than a lot of other games, as long as adults monitor things. /2
@AllisonETEC My kids play Roblox, but they are unable to get to Robux unless they get a gift card, I will not attach my $$ to it. The chat is disabled for the 11 year old, but recently enabled for the 13 year old, but can only chat w/friends. 1/
@AllisonETEC@educator4ever36 Or 22 4th graders, 6 on IEPs, 2 needing alt. curr., 18 below level readers, 3 high behaviors, no cert. sped teacher, and admin who rarely followed through with behaviors.
