JED BARTLETT: *peering at news* Abby, did you see this?
ABBY: don't get your blood pressure up. it's not your concern anymore.
JED: well, of course it is. can't a man be interested in current events?
ABBY: just tell me you won't call--
JED: get Toby on the phone, will you?
Glioblastoma has been in the shadows for far too long and it is time to act! Glioblastoma needs more recognition and funding in order to find a cure and raise the survival rate.
May 17th: GBM is often referred to as a grade IV astrocytoma. These are the most invasive type of glial tumors, rapidly growing and commonly spreading into nearby brain tissue. (https://t.co/Xr1Q9e7fGA)
May 16th: Symptoms vary depending on the location of the brain tumor, but may include:
*Persistent headaches
*Blurred vision
*Loss of vision
*Changes in mood and personality
*Changes in ability to think and learn
*New onset of seizures
*Speech difficulty of gradual onset
May 15th: GBMs are biologically aggressive tumors that present unique treatment challenges due to the following characteristics:
*Localization of tumors in the brain
*Inherent resistance to conventional therapy
*Limited capacity of the brain to repair itself
*Migration of malignant cells into adjacent brain tissue
*The variably disrupted tumor blood supply which inhibits effective drug delivery
*Tumor capillary leakage, resulting in an accumulation of fluid around the tumor; (peritumoral edema) and intracranial hypertension
May 14th: For the most common form of primary malignant brain tumors, glioblastoma, the five-year relative survival rate is only 6.8%. (https://t.co/g6yVQSCC6Y)
May 13th: Glioblastoma is the most commonly occurring primary malignant brain tumor (accounting for 14.6% of all tumors, and 48.3% of all malignant tumors) (https://t.co/ua6wQpAMc5)
May 12: Glioblastoma is a type of astrocytoma, a cancer that forms from star-shaped cells in the brain called astrocytes. In adults, this cancer usually starts in the cerebrum, the largest part of your brain. Glioblastoma tumors make their own blood supply, which helps them grow.
May 11th: Brain tumors are the second most common cancer among children 0-14. They are the leading cause of cancer-related deaths in this age group, outpacing even leukemia according to a 2016 report. (https://t.co/484IaNmSPO)
