We have a female Chief Minister. What a win for WHO Sustainable Development Goal 5: Gender Equality. Then this in our local paper. Posted as “best comment”. The paper has a female editor. We don’t stand a chance... @DeniseCahill18
#BetaBlockade in severe traumatic brain injury has shown improvements in survival & recovery after injury. This paper demonstrates in a series of in vivo&ex vivo experiments a potential mechanism for this benefit using a live rodent #TBI model https://t.co/FqFVRY32hU @JPascual2016
Dear #BreastCancer survivors who have had axillary procedures- it is SAFE to have blood taken, and blood pressure measurements done, on that arm. It does not increase lymphoedema and it makes me cranky to see pts scared unnecessarily into painful leg/foot procedures.

A sad day for cricket 😔. As a South African, I can say that we loved to hate you. You were just too good during those epic test match clashes against the Proteas. “Stil, broers, daar gaan 'n man verby, hy groet, en dis verlaas.”
RIP Shane Warne.
Powerful words for everyone: “Remember how it feels now.”
Thank you @ACEMPresident for calling for the health system reform we need to make sure all of us can access the care we need.
@drHelenschultz Good luck! Same happened to me. Luckily over the worst of it now. The anxiety part of it was the worst - being awake at 3:24 am, wondering how far you’ll go down that slippery slope…. Sending love
You mean ‘All patients with mild/moderate #COVID19’ in the rich Global North. For everyone else it’s a hospital bed (if available), oxygen (if available) and steroids (if available). Two worlds, two realities
If you are a consultant and you can hear the FY1 getting an absolute bollocking over the phone from someone for any reason, you really ought to take the phone off them and say ‘hello this is the consultant, how can I help?’, rather than just giving them a sympathetic grimace
The pandemic isn't over simply because our corner of the globe is vaccinated. What did you think we meant when we said "none of us is safe until we are all safe"?
@sidherian@ketaminh One must be younger than 45 yrs to immigrate to Australia from South Africa - that means the average South African expat currently migrating to Australia was probably around 8 yrs old when Apartheid was abolished. So, no, we aren’t ‘pro-apartheid”. Not cool, mate!
Five quick tweets on the new variant B.1.1.529
Caveat first: data here is *very* preliminary, so everything could change. Nonetheless, better safe than sorry.
1) Based on the data we have, this variant is out-competing others *far* faster than Beta and even Delta did 🚩🚩
There is nothing that kills me inside more than the words “I did my own research, so….” uttered or written by people who can’t even spell ‘borders’ 🙄🙄🙄🤯
Rant over, sorry!
Have a good week everyone!
