The civil rights movement may have given blacks the right to vote but then white men brought out the handcuffs, criminalized African Americans and took that right away.
George Floyd and I were both arrested for allegedly spending a counterfeit $20 bill. For George Floyd, a man my age, with two kids, it was a death sentence. For me, it is a story I sometimes tell at parties. That, my friends, is White privilege.
My favorite quotes from honors college professors:
“Sorry I didn’t respond to any emails I was harvesting tomatoes”
“Please wear comfy clothes Thursday so we can do yoga”
“What puppy videos do you guys wana watch?”
“I’m gonna have to cancel class, I can’t find my keys”
@jtroyswag Yes protesting is a civil right and I agree spread love not hate. Unfortunately there’s still a lot of people out there who shed hate on the LGBTQ community and other minority groups. It’s just sad to see negative media on the pride parade when it’s such a powerful movement.
@jtroyswag The civil rights movement lead to equal legal rights because of the individuals who broke the law to fight for what they believe in. This woman may have caused “destruction” of a sign, but often times the fight for what is right is not peaceful.
@jtroyswag The LGBTQ community has experienced discrimination, prejudice, and hate their whole lives. You want to combat hate? That starts with treating every individual as an equal.
