@IzzieLfsusd I agree, because you do analyze what the person is saying if you are just listening to understand. Like you said, you think more about your reply when you are thinking for that purpose and that purpose only.
Listening 2 understand & listening 2 reply r different bcuz when u r listening 2 understand, ur paying attention for urself & ur own understanding. When u listen 2 reply, ur paying attention so that you can give feed back to let speaker 1 know that you understood them. #tollgvms
Maya Angelou and Melinda were both sexually assaulted at a young age, and Melinda's subconscious mind may feel a connection to her because of that. Melinda is so lonely that she feels connected to Maya Angelou and may feel even a little bit comforted. #tollgvms
A8 #tollgvms People aren't picking up the signs bcuz people in the life of somebody who needs help r ignorant and just want everything to b positive & happy. While these people were pretending everything was happy, somebody close to them is sinking to suicide.
1A7 #tollgvms Melinda and Pink are similar because in the song, it says, "I promis you that it won't always feel this bad...You little heartbroken thirteen year old me." Melinda & Pink both felt lonely and unsupported after the sexual assaults they experienced. The pain they
A6 #tollgvms Melinda chose to stay silent because after what happened at that party, she feels insecure and embarrassed. Her case of depression is causing Melinda to sink back and become invisible. Melinda doesn't want others to think of her as a freak, or anything different.
A5 #tollgvms Rachel & Melinda aren't friends anymore bcuz they are both on different tracks of self-discovery. This time of their life is when people figure out who they are, so the 2 have just split up. However, there may be a chance of them becoming friends again.
@NatePFSUSD You did excellent! The way you organized these words is enough to fit the character of 'IT' without going overboard. There's nothing I would change.
A3 #tollgvms Melinda wants to change her room so it fits her personality, but is afraid her parents would fight over paint all wall colors (Anderson 16). Melinda is growing up and wants her room to fit her personality.
A4 #tollgvms Melinda bites her lip to the point of a puncture in her skin as a form of self-harm to distract herself from the bad things going on right in front of her. Self-harm allows Melinda to control what she notices.
A2 #tollgvms What I have done gives me so much power. I can do anything... I can do it again whenever I want to. All I have to do is approach her, put my hand on her lower back... and guide her away from the crowds. I can do it again. And again, as many times as I want.
@DiegoMfsusd I understand the idea of your memoir, but this makes it seem like Melinda is suicidal. In the book, there is no signs of attempted suicide or the thought of it. You could've written something like "My struggle now is painful" which has the same feel, but doesn't imply suicide.
Grades r helpful bcuz if a student's grade is higher, the student may feel proud & focus on keeping up the good work, and if the grade is going dwn, they can focus on studying and wrking hard 2 brng the grade up. Grades giv students ideas of what they need 2 study more. #tollgvms
"This closet is abandoned-it has no purpose, no name. It is the perfect place for me," Melinda meant that she's just a nobody. Very few people actually care about her, & she doesn't have a 'clan' at school to be comforted. Melinda is a nameless nobody in her own eyes. #tollgvms
Melissa's signs of depression such as self harm, no friends, and little care for people. Melissa bites her lip to the point of blood, which qualifies as self-harm. Her lack of friends equals a lack of emotional support, which takes a toll on Melissa's well-being. #tollgvms
It's more important to listen because your friends and family and everybody else need to know that they are being listened to, appreciated, and supported by you. Also, if everybody speaks and nobody listens, there's not much point to speaking anyways. #tollgvms
