Situated on mountains and plateaus, is one of the countries with elevation averaging 5,180 feet (1,580 meters).
- Many Mongolians continue to live in yurts, or gers, which are dome-shaped, tent-like structures
- Mongolia’s largest festival, Naadam, is celebrated in summer and focuses on sports, games, and food.
- The first dinosaur egg ever discovered was found in the Gobi. Many dinosaur remains and fossils from 100 million years ago, during the late Cretaceous period, have been found there.
- The majority of Mongolians practice Tibetan Buddhism which was introduced to the country in the sixteenth century
– Mongolia is known for the Siberian Ibex, Snow Leopard, Gobi Bear, Wild Bactrian Camel and Przewalski’s Horse.
- Chinggis Khan, a monument has been built to his memory about 33 miles east of Ulaanbaatar.
