Society does not need landlords in order to function.
People should either be able to own a home of their own or rent extremely cheaply from the state, local authorities or housing coops. Tenant’s money should go into housing rather than landlord’s pockets.
Abolish landlordism.
Can anyone genuinely explain why a pensioner who earns £34,999 per year should get their heating bills paid for by the government (and taxpayers)?
That is an income higher than 45% of full-time workers.
Many in our media are finally waking up to the unspeakable horrors that Palestinians are enduring in Gaza.
It is too late.
Israel inflicted these horrors because they were encouraged to do so, in part by a media class that failed to treat all human life with equal worth.
This moment when the penny drops that trying to implement bathroom bans is an impossibility for the former Tory Chief Secretary Simon Clarke is delicious.
Dear @wesstreeting,
More people are diagnosed with mental illness because growing up in austerity increases mental illness rates—then a 2 million-strong waiting list cements disability.
Stop making people who already feel like a burden feel even worse.
Best,
Dr Jay Watts
Interesting question. Nearly half the country think they'll pay inheritance tax even though few actually will so I was using an example to show that even a married couple with a million pounds of assets won't, to show most people that they're not affected by it.
I heard somebody say the other day that because they are pissed off with how #Reeves and #Kendall are treating the sick and disabled they are voting #Reform. If you want to protest, vote #Green or Lib-Dem or #SNP rather than for a party who will probably bring in the workhouse.
How did we get to the point that disabled people are seen responsible for all what is wrong in the UK? Not 14 years of Tory austerity, not 2m people with long covid, not dilapidated public services, not brexit, not successive corrupt governments. How can people swallow this?
Worked for years with a disability, which has been horrendous, tiring, and very difficult to keep going, and now @uklabour and Liz Kendall say disabled people are not ordinary people. Surely she must be made to resign @Keir_Starmer? Ask her to come and spend a day with me?
My partner's previous employer used to plead poverty and say he didn't earn a decent wage. He put EVERYTHING through his business. School fees, house renovation, car, expenses, EVERYTHING. When people say they only earn 20k, that isn't the full story
Unless Labour start very, very quickly making people's lives vastly better, our services vastly better, and stop funding the slaughter in Palestine, we'll have our very own Prime Minister Trump next election. Maybe Farage, maybe Badenoch, maybe somebody even worse.
All over the rich world, people’s lives are getting worse.
It’s harder to afford the basics, keep a roof over your head, and access care when you’re sick.
People will keep voting for whoever they think will bring back prosperity. 1/
