In moments like these, the role of lawyers is not only to advocate in court, but to stand beside survivors with humanity and strength.
We are proud to have them alongside us in this fight.
And as Chloé Pasmantier reflected:
“For generations, children of the Yazidi community have grown up with stories of genocide. It now falls to this Court to ensure that future generations grow up with stories of justice.”
As Clémance Bectarte said:
“The testimonies of all the survivors underscore the urgent need for justice and the importance of creating a lasting record of the atrocities they endured—not only for themselves, but also for their children, their families and the entire community.”
Clémance and Chloé demonstrated remarkable commitment. They went beyond legal representation, ensuring that survivors were supported, heard, and treated with dignity throughout the entire process.
The trial was not only about legal arguments. It was about survivors and their courage to come forward and to speak in pursuit of justice. The road to justice is long. Survivors do not need to walk this path alone. They need protection, care, and support every step of the way.
We are grateful to our lawyers, Clémance Bectarte and Chloé Pasmantier, for their extraordinary dedication throughout the Sabri Essid trial in France, a historic moment for the Yezidi community.
at the @MiddleEastInst I asked Syria’s finance minister about plans for industrial development in Aleppo and the northeast Syria .
Syria’s redevelopment needs to be spread throughout the country.
All Syrians must benefit from economic investment coming into our nation.
Kurdish Peshmerga helped the world defeat ISIS—now under ballistic missile attack from Iran. Condolences to my Kurdish friends for these losses, and gratitude for our long partnership with Peshmerga across decades.
As we commemorate the 8th anniversary of the Afrin occupation, I take some solace in the return of families to the city.
But most are returning to looted homes.
As Syrians, we must ensure together that justice is done and Afrin’s future security is guaranteed.
My colleagues @bsishak @BassamSaker1 and I had a series of fruitful meetings on the Hill today, working for a successful Syrian integration.
Lasting stability means including all Syrian components and women at the table.
