When I was at UCLA, my hitting coach had me do a weird drill.
At the time, I was struggling to pull the ball in the air.
❌ A lot of topspin.
❌ A lot of getting around the baseball.
❌ I wasn't staying through it.
❌ I would let the ball get really deep and then try to turn fast.
By the time I did, I was getting beat.
So my hitting coach made a simple adjustment.
He put the tee in a spot where the only way to hit it hard was to drive it right back up the middle.
That spot was lined up with my front foot after my stride landed.
I took 5 swings there.
Then he told me:
"Don't move your feet."
Instead, he moved the tee about 6 inches farther out front.
Now when I hit it, the ball started going into the pull-side gap.
But something else happened.
✅ I started covering more of the plate.
✅ I started staying through the baseball longer.
✅ I started driving the baseball instead of getting around it.
The next day we had a scrimmage.
I stepped in the box and smoked a ball off the left-center field wall.
I looked at him and thought:
"That felt different."
I've used that drill ever since.
- Any time I felt like I wasn't driving the baseball.
- Any time I felt like I was getting around it.
- Any time I felt like I was losing my ability to stay through it.
I'd go back to that drill.
Today, I call it the Break The Wall Drill.
So here's what I'd do tonight if I was struggling to drive the baseball into my pull-side gap:
Round 1
Put the tee in the middle of the plate about waist high.
Hit 5 line drives right back up the middle.
Don't move your feet.
Round 2
Move the tee 6 inches farther out front.
Keep your feet in the exact same spot.
Hit 5 balls into your pull-side gap.
Round 3
Repeat the sequence 3 times.
Middle.
Pull-side gap.
Middle.
Pull-side gap.
Focus on one thing:
Break the wall behind the baseball.
Don't just touch it.
Drive through it.
Because there's one thing I learned:
One swing thought can confuse a hitter.
The right drill can change a swing in one day.

@WarsosBaldHead Him praising God standing by his beliefs has nothing to do with homophobia.
Ephesians 4:18 “They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.”
@leftcoastbabe@KNBR Him being proud of his beliefs has nothing to do with not accepting them. We praise God proudly . Just as they are proud of who they are. We don’t need to conform to anybody. Has nothing to do with hate.
@KNBR Good for you Landen. You guys portraying this as hate are miss lead. Nothing against any individual who decides to live their life as they please. It’s simple We stand by our beliefs as they stand by theirs.
