You can absolutely hunt with an ar15, it doesn't "obliterate" insides. Plenty of people hunt deer with the .223 Remington cartridge. Nothing about the ar15 makes that round any more powerful than it is out of a bolt action.

And .223 Remington was designed to match .30-06 at helment penetration at 600 yards .
It does that.
You don't need more than that to kill a human
You definitely don't need to do it that far in most combat situations

It grew amongst gun control groups and, as tradition for the past 40 years up until recently, a majority of gun owners tucked their tails and ran like cowards.
