🤯 Miami just hit the hottest temperature ever recorded today at 100°. Previously, Miami only hit 100° one time in 1942. The high humidity we typically see in South Florida takes more energy to heat up so it's difficult to send the temperature this high.

👀 What looks like a tropical storm in the Gulf near Florida is not what it seems. It's called a mesoscale convective vortex and is spin in the middle part of the atmosphere, not at the surface. NHC gives a 30% chance of development into next week. Next name on the list is Bertha

Hail from a severe thunderstorm this afternoon in Miami Lakes. The storm’s strong updraft blew raindrops high up into below freezing parts of the atmosphere, before growing big enough to fall to the ground.

The Florida Turnpike’s southbound lanes are shut down near Doral as crews fight fire with fire. They’re doing a backburn while winds and the weather are predictable, which will leave less fuel for the main fire. Scary for those nearby, but necessary firefighting tactics.

New scenes from the chopper this afternoon of the wildfires burning in Northwest Miami-Dade County. The fires are burning hot enough to see a brief fire tornado from time to time. The thick smoke plume is fanning out over 15 miles wide across Broward County. #Florida

The first tropical storm of the season is likely to develop in the Gulf off the coast of Texas Wednesday. Next name on the list is Arthur. Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for parts of the Texas and Louisiana coast. 5-10" of rain leading to flooding will be the highest impact.

The first Heat Advisory of the year has been issued for Miami-Dade and Broward County for a heat index up to 107°. This week will have the hottest combination of very high temperatures along with excessive humidity that we've felt so far this season. #FLwx

Colorado State University lowered their Atlantic hurricane season forecast today as confidence increases in a developing strong el niño. Now expecting 11 named storms compared to an average 14.

The first "area to watch" was highlighted in the Gulf from the National Hurricane Center today. Remnants of Tropical Depression Cristina in the Pacific along with some other moisture/energy will move into the southwestern Gulf this weekend. Only a low 10% chance of development.

A stationary thunderstorm over Key West has dropped up to 5" of rain and continues to sit over the area. A Flood Warning continues until 3:30pm with some road closures, including the 500 block of Angela Street. Water has started entering business in the area.
