Is there really such a thing as the ‘lesser of evils? No. It’s just evil; not better; not worse.
There’s a slow creep factor to normalising evil. When you compromise a little, you accept that moral lines are capable of adjustment; until there’s no line left.
‘Noble cause corruption’; ‘moral relativism’
These terms describe this creep factor. Those who rationalise bad behaviour by convincing themselves & others that what is deemed to be ‘moral or noble’ is relative to self interest.
The "Very Serious Person" side of the economics profession in Australia in a nutshell:
Australia Institute: "Profits are driving inflation!"
Economists: "Outrageous. You are buffoons!"
OECD: "Profits are driving inflation"
Economists: "Hmm, much to ponder."
Been off the racist cesspit that has become Twitter for the past week…then see that welcome to country is trending and logged straight out.
You don’t have to have much of an imagination to predict the racist vitriol that’s being tweeted.
In 2019, 13 Aboriginal young ppl died by suicide in the Kimberley without a mental health assessment. In 2016 I presented my unique screening tools to a senate inquiry into Indigenous suicides which were cited by Canadian Govt as best practice in 2005., 2019 and which, at that stage had over 30,000 practitioners across Australia accredited in their use. The Govt made no recommendations around their use or implementation. I again presented the tools to the full cabinet in 2019. No recommendations around their use.
We have NO data on Indigenous mental health or suicide risk in this entire country - this is hard to say out loud -when we have a child suicide rate SIX times that of non Indigenous children. We have just submitted for publication the FIRST data on Indigenous youth (N=1266) all SELF FUNDED. I will also digitise these tools in a few weeks so we can capture data in real time for the FIRST time across Australia.
Remember government have done NONE of this.
We now have 41 Indigenous psych students funded through public donations & personal fundraising efforts.
Never again will a child die from suicide due to a lack of access to services on my watch. We are doing the work of giants.
And I am so proud of that ♥️🖤🖤

In this interview, I was 7 or 8 months pregnant. Now I have a 10.5 month old daughter. That’s how long this has been going on for.
When a male is in female sport, it means at least one female misses out. Those women & girls have no other options. That’s it. They’re done. Competitive sport over for them.
If this is inclusion, It’s inclusion on the basis of extreme exclusion.
An engaging Sorry Day ceremony at the Sherwood Arboretum this morning. Truth telling, respect and recognition. A big thank you to @benarrawa, indigenous elders for sharing their stories and schools that attended to show their respect.
@RonniSalt @shaunmicallef Could we do an age check first. I suspect many would qualify given some think they could get away with this sh!t. Repeat of the US roaring ‘20s - the return of the white collar crimes. Lets make sure we get a few of these accessories after the fact too.
“To those who have abused me & my family, I would say if your aim was to hurt me, well, you succeeded & I'm sorry I must have given you so much cause to hate me, target me & my family, make threats against me
#QandA Stan Grant
This is the real & raw pain of abuse.
@David_Speers Then stop inviting the journalists who help fuel this onto #Insiders
You know exactly who they are, who they work for and what they support
If you really meant this, you wouldn't platform the very journalists and media outlets that do this to him
Why not walk your big talk?
I caught up for lunch with @Kara__Cook today to say farewell. As the only female retiring Councillor the Lord Mayor did not invite her to a civic function for retiring Councillors. Best wishes for the new chapter Kara and thank you 💪🙌👍#WomenSupportingWomen
My operating rule is that economics is based on a lot of basic truths, but too many economists claim a lot more certainty for it than they should, and use it to persuade and mislead my readers.
Women hold up the sky of our care economy but have been overworked and undervalued for too long.
A 15% pay rise for aged care workers is an important step towards righting that wrong.
