🎥 REVIEW: “Blood Star” (2024) The film is pure chaos. A woman driving through the desert and an unhinged Sheriff. She stops
to get gas and he confronts her. From first contact, he’s off. He continues to harass her for the better part of the film and then you get to the motivation. Utterly pointless. It’s good for a ride, but don’t try to make any sense out of it. Rated 066/100
📽️REVIEW: "Black Phone 2" (2025) This feels like a completely different beast. The menace of the Grabber returns, now haunting Gwen in terrifying dream-sequences drenched in vintage horror style. The snowy camp adds isolated dread, and Finney’s trauma runs much deeper this time around. It’s scarier, more layered, and emotionally weightier. A sequel that honors the original while boldly charting its own, darker path. Rated 086/100
🎥 REVIEW: “Frankenhooker” (1990) Pure 80’s schlock spilled over into the 90’s. It’s fun, it’s frantic, and unhinged. An amoral lead finds a way to keep his freshly slain bride, fresh. She’s on the loose and on the prowl. Hilarious practical effects and even more hilarious special ones. Used every cent of its budget. A cautionary tale of science gone amiss. Rated 077/100
🎥 REVIEW: “The Lost Bus” (2025) This is a true story based on the Camp Fire in Paradise, CA in 2018. It’s likely completely overdramatized, but the facts show that this was the deadliest wildfire in California history. The visuals are fantastic, Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera have great chemistry as the leads. It’s on AppleTV+ right now for those interested in a fast burning thriller. Rated 085/100
🎥 REVIEW: “Wrong Turn” (2003) Turns out there are 7 films in this franchise. The first five follow the continuity of this film, the later 2 are reboots. I have no intention of diving into all of them now—maybe next October. I’m not going to say this first one is great, but it’s got a lot of tense and very unsettling moments. The premise and set up are solid for a slasher. Rated 072/100
🎥 REVIEW: “A Nightmare on Elm Street” (1984) Wes Craven brought Johnny Depp to the big screen, with Robert Englund as the famed slasher, Freddy Krueger. This film is a dream for lovers of character based slashers. It was a very strong start to a franchise that eventually had more cheese than the top of Old Smokey. Elm St was always a street I avoided in whatever town I lived in growing up. Rated 088/100
