BadLocksmithing: “sorry but that lock needs to be drilled”
Customer: “can’t you just pick it?”
BadLocksmithing: “sure hold on...okay picked! See, told you it has to be drilled”
American Series 7300 tubular locks protecting an abandoned water control structure along the Alviso Slough trail in the San Francisco Bay. The manufacture date stamped on this lock is August 2004.
@Eric_the_baker @deviantollam That’s some really impressive curved warding on those keys! What an exceptional set of hidden moves to reveal the keyways too.
@kpm1985 That’s a key to a warded lock (meaning the design is more simple and it doesn’t have pins). See other warded locks like this one for similar keys.
Several very old BEST brand padlocks at the Lighthouse in Cabrillo National Monument, Point Loma, California. One side of these locks is stamped "U.S. N.P.S." for the National Park Service. Sorry the focus was off in a few photos 😞
@hacktress09@toool I’m much worse in the dark or with my eyes closed. I control my depth into the lock and avoid / get around warding visually. I need to practice doing it all via feel instead of using vision so much.
A Master VLine 40mm brass lock “securing” solar panels to a tree on the Mt. Laguna Desert View Trail just outside of the Burnt Rancheria Campground. Not the best lock but it’s a beautiful setting.
@poa_nyc @NicholasAarons@nite0wl @marvthegrate I bought a similar Slaymaker on eBay a few years back. The seller warned me that it was a bit fiddley with the key. When I got it, I realized it was a warded lock and the owner had just been using a random pin-tumbler key for years because the key happened to fit and “work”.
@ZedWrench This lock is worth double (at least!) the bin it’s attached to. Like the ASSA Abloy disc detainer locks on the newspaper stands in Seattle. How many newspapers does a stand have to sell to pay for the lock attached to the stand...?
@locksport_ok I’ve only ever used the Peterson tool. Master added a lip that the tip of the shim likes to catch on or deflect on. I got a cut-away to help me understand the mitigations and now I find even the new ones really easy to shim.
