Students in our SHSM Mining Engineering Program at Lockerby Composite School had the opportunity to visit a unique mining site in Gogama! They learned that the Cote Gold Mine operates on a fleet of 20 completely autonomous mining vehicles and 4 autonomous drills!

Last week, our Viking healthcare students practiced taking vitals and applying their knowledge to case studies. They also looked at healthy functioning swine lungs and how smoking can impact the lungs’ ability to fill with air!

Some huge news from Edmonton, Alberta! Last evening at this year’s Canada-Wide Science Fair…Ariana Demers brought home a national BRONZE MEDAL! Additionally, a big congratulations to all of our Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) participants, Ariana, Farheen, Maria, and Alex!

This week, Grade 9 STEP students took a Field Trip to @LaurentianU - it was a day of learning at the Planetarium, in the Chemistry Laboratory, with the Earth Sciences Department, and in the Kinesiology Room!

Our Senior Constructions classes (led by Mr. Christie) have been hard at work building picnic tables for Lockerby’s “Eco-Crevice” (unveiling coming soon)! Mr. Lafraniere was also super pumped with the Owl Houses that the classes built as well!

Last week, a group of grade 9 and 10 students attended the Change-making Student Senate Stand Up Speak Out Conference. They were inspired by the words of Sunjay Nath, who encouraged students to think of obstacles as opportunities, to find their own choice and create change!
