On Thursday, we celebrated a historic milestone with the groundbreaking of the Lodi Police Department’s Outdoor Public Safety Training Facility.

This milestone reflects years of collaboration, planning, and dedication from countless individuals and organizations committed to strengthening public safety throughout our region. Thank you to our city leaders—including council members past and present—city staff, County leaders, representatives from our elected officials, community partners, public safety partners, Lodi Police Foundation members, current and retired LPD personnel, Delta College representatives, and everyone who joined us to celebrate this exciting day.

We are proud to bring this landmark training facility to Lodi and look forward to the completion of Phase I as we continue building a premier destination for public safety training. This investment will expand training opportunities, strengthen regional partnerships, and help prepare current and future public safety professionals to better serve and protect our communities as we continue working alongside San Joaquin Delta College toward our shared vision for this premier public safety training facility.

Thank you for being part of this historic day. We look forward to the continued progress of this project and the lasting impact it will have on public safety training throughout our region.

Thank you to everyone who made this year’s National Night Out a success! A special shout-out to our Partners Volunteers for coordinating another incredible event, and to our community members, volunteers, local organizations, and public safety partners for your continued support. Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Hale Park block party—it was a fun evening connecting with our community! We also appreciate all the neighborhoods that hosted block parties and welcomed visits from our Police Department, City leaders, City staff, and our community partners.

Congratulations to Corporal Honeycutt on being recognized by Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) at this year’s Law Enforcement & Prosecutor Recognition Awards Ceremony!

This marks Honeycutt’s third consecutive year of being recognized by MADD for his dedication to detecting and apprehending impaired drivers. We are incredibly proud of his commitment to keep our roads safer through DUI enforcement.

Holiday Cheer Starts Here: Celebrate the Holiday Season Responsibly National “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” Enforcement Campaign Begins Dec. 11

The holiday season can be dangerous for people on the roads. In December 2022 alone, 1,062 people were killed in the U.S. in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. The Lodi Police Department wants to remind the public of the dangers of driving impaired and to celebrate the holiday season responsibly by not driving under the influence.
From December 11 through New Year’s Day, the Lodi Police Department will have additional officers on patrol looking for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs. The high-visibility enforcement effort is part of a national campaign, Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, with the goal of stopping suspected impaired drivers who put others at risk.

“During the holiday season, we see families and loved ones coming together to celebrate, and our goal is to make sure everyone gets home safely,” said Lodi Police Sergeant Dan Bristow. “Impaired driving isn’t just dangerous; it’s illegal. Let’s make this a joyful and safe holiday season for everyone on the road. We urge people to act responsibly and plan a sober ride home.”
The Lodi Police Department encourages everyone to stay in for the night or have a “go safely” game plan by scheduling a ride or designating a sober driver if you plan to consume alcohol.

Impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, cannabis products and other drugs may also cause impairment. If you plan on drinking or taking medications with a driving warning label, let someone who is sober drive. If you see someone who appears to be driving while impaired, call 9-1-1.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The men and women of the Lodi Police Department are honored to remember Rick and his many contributions to our community. His legacy of service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

On 07/22/2024, Lodi PD officers responded to 208 E. Locust Street (Hale Park) regarding a carjacking. The victim reported that an unknown male attacked him and stole his car. Yesterday, Officer Thornburg located the victim’s vehicle and attempted to stop it, but the vehicle fled. A pursuit was initiated, which ended when the car crashed into a center median and guard rail near Ham Lane and Harney Lane. The four occupants in the vehicle were identified as 18-year-old Rafa Luna-Garcia, 18-year-old Angel Vergara-Castaneda, and two juvenile males, all Lodi residents.

A search of the vehicle resulted in four loaded firearms. This included a short-barrel assault rifle and three handguns with extended magazines, two of which were stolen and equipped with automatic selector switches. All subjects were booked for several weapons violations and gang enhancements, with an additional charge of felony evading added to Luna-Garcia.
