Bruce Thornton was one of college basketball’s best players this past season.
On top of that, his strengths and weaknesses line up consistently with some of the most undervalued guards in previous drafts. Will the NBA make the same mistake letting Thornton slip?

We’re two games into FIBA U18 AmeriCup play, and Team USA has surged to a 2-0 start. Who stands out? Who has for the wrong reasons? And which 2027 high school prospects am I keeping an eye on?

If I had to nitpick, there’s a couple warts: 0 FTAs and 0 BLKs are physicality indicators that can’t be ignored.
It shouldn’t, however, factor into his athleticism. Coleman dunks easy, skies for boards and is quick and flexible off the dribble.
Plays bogger than 6’4”.
Quentin Coleman (Illinois) hasn’t found his shot in FIBA U18 AmeriCup play yet, but he’s been Team USA’s best player and prospect.
Outside of scoring, Coleman has put up:
- 12.5 REB (5.0 OREB)
- 3.5 AST (7.0 AST/TO)
- +63 in two GP
ELITE @QuentinC_1!
Loved this sequence from '27 5⭐️ Adan Diggs. Quick and physical on the back cut, then gets the deflection that leads to a leak-out bucket for Taylen Kinney.
One word to describe him: Reactive (in the best way).

You’re not moving off Chet for Cam Boozer to solve Wemby. You can’t solve him and selling out roster synergy/construction to try beyond getting bigger and better on defense (basketball principles, not specifically Wemby principles) doesn’t help you win.
You move Chet for Cam for the roster flexibility, and because you think Cam is better.
Florida International's incoming duo of Trey Beamer & Jalan Wingfield is one of my favorite, as you don't see a programs two best freshman ever overlap often
Im expecting Trey to have one the best FR shooting szns in CBB (career 41 3Pr & 90% FT) & Jalan to destroy stocks/boards

"Analytics darlings" also make plays that don't show up on the box score (e.g. the two passes he makes here), but man, the box score plays Graves makes are LOUD.
Allen Graves
-dives for loose ball (and tips it out accurately)
-gets offensive rebound,
-hits cutter from post,
-picks up ballhandler in transition,
-blocks at rim.
Very funny that this player came off the bench.
One of the craziest Jalen Brunson stats for me is that in his 2018 season, he was assisted on just 3.6% (!!!) of his mid-range shots, on which he shot 50.9% on 183 attempts.
Also, Bruce Thornton shot 57.7% on 175 mid-range shots and was assisted on 17.8% of them.
All three Michigan guys could defend in it.
Kingston Flemings and Bennett Stirtz could run some plays.
Allen Graves could, for size and feel reasons.
Hannes Steinbach? Dailyn Swain? Maybe?
Let’s play a fun game—
Name a player in the 2026 NBA Draft (no one in the top-4) who you could see playing AND excelling in this Spurs/Thunder matchup:
@WonzoTV Legitimately slayed every single level and every single event he’s ever played in. Destroyed every age group of Eybl, walked down OTE, fiba, the all-star events etc, then won NPOY at 18 y/o… the most dominant pre-NBA player of all time & somehow the narratives haven’t changed
Alex Samodurov in U20 play last year:
- 17.6 PTS (.415 3PAr, .619 FTr)
- 5.7 REB
- 2.7 AST (2.1 A/TO)
- 2.4 STK
- 61.2% TS
AT 6’11”!!!!!
But he averaged 2.0 points when he was 16 playing in the Euroleague, so who cares?
