@LungAssociation's new #StateoftheAir report revealed that nearly 9 million MORE people were impacted by deadly particle pollution than reported last year. Colorado has made progress, but there's more work ahead to clean up #oilgas industry & #cutmethane.https://t.co/WpOFC37VRE
The town of Firestone supported the project. But several homeowners objected. The proposal was seen as a test of new state oil&gas rules that prioritize public health, safety and the environment over drilling.
JUST NOW: The @ColoradoOGCC has voted 4-1 against a proposal by Kerr-McGee to drill 33 wells near a neighborhood in Firestone. Commissioners were concerned that the wells would be too close to nearby homes.
Making history.
Everyday neighbors stood up to protect their health and safety. And the State listened. The #COGCC listened to the facts and followed the law. Thank you.
BREAKING: Neighbors make history as the #cogcc denies a proposed oil and gas development that would have impacted nearly 100 homes in Firestone. Unprecedented move to protect health and safety. More to come.
"Please protect us." Some residents are asking the @ColoradoOGCC to Kerr McGee's proposal to drill near their Firestone neighborhood. They say the plan doesn't live up to #SenateBill181, which revamped oil/gas rules. https://t.co/bbxxKLFCXP
This application will undoubtably cause harm to the people who live and recreate near it.
I ask that you please protect their health, safety, and welfare, and deny this application. This includes both McGavin AND Columbine, both of which have homes within 2,000.”
Andrew Forkes Gudmundson at today’s Oil and Gas hearing:
“I’ve sat on couches and dining tables with oil rigs clearly visible through windows as residents tell me bloody noses, headaches, sleep deprivation, and terrible illness.
I walked door to door in these specific neighborhoods. Some within 2,000’ had never heard of this application, some thought it was already approved, almost none knew they had any right to protest this application.
