@FemtoSpirit@AngloNordid@GardinerIsland@EricLDaugh We've given the world more innovations in the past 15 years than France has in decades. The only thing that's changed in France is that you're learning to say “I surrender” in Arabic instead of German.
@GardinerIsland Still can't believe their bonds trade below $RCD. I've got a bid in for that bond well under $20. It's traded as a teenager before. We'll see.
@Dollar_Bill_100@GardinerIsland Agree that tax factors don't incentivize marriage. I doubt they ever have. It's something the pols could campaign on a hundred years ago when they put in the lower taxes for married filing joint. You know.... when family values were still important in the US... many decades ago.
@Dollar_Bill_100@GardinerIsland Also, consider if a couple is retired usually the only loss in income is her SS check. No way does filing single vs married work for 99+% of couples.
@Dollar_Bill_100@GardinerIsland I don't think incomes are typically split 50/50. For high income married couples the wife usually doesn't work at all. The only tax bracket that is not doubled is the very top 37% bracket & that is ONLY 20% higher. Most have to pay a crapload of SALT to make single rates better.
@USRoute41@GardinerIsland@iBladesi@WSJ Agree 100%.... and that is assuming no bear market. The equity indexes are so stretched I can't believe the bear won't show up sometime in 2027. I'm buying bonds & keeping a healthy cash balance. Will continue whenever I can find bond bargains. Many out there right now.
@Dollar_Bill_100@GardinerIsland ONLY doubled? Wow!
If you're married, assume your wife dies this year and look at what your tax bill will be next year with the same income as this year. ALL your tax brackets will double next year vs this year = your tax bill will double next year vs this year.
@USRoute41@GardinerIsland@iBladesi@WSJ I've recently become a yield farmer. I don't think the ops for cap gains in 2027 are going to be anywhere close to what they have been over the past decade. Yield equities are expensive, likely coming down. What is now cheap (mREITs, BDCs, etc.) have too much risk for my age.
@Dollar_Bill_100@GardinerIsland Are you serious? Have you looked at the married vs single tax brackets lately. If you haven't you should.

@GardinerIsland If anybody buys this bullshit they deserve to write bigger checks to the IRS. Most anybody who looks at the tax brackets of single vs married will quickly realize how dumb this move would be unless their SALT deduction is well into 7 figures while annual income is much lower.
@GardinerIsland@BigBlockVette69@FentanylSucks Yes, but inflation is still far from under control. If they say no more hikes needed too soon, the long end (and mortgage rates) will run far higher. In your opinion, what is the neutral rate?
@GardinerIsland@EricLDaugh Yup. My wife and I decided that a few months ago. Best Sec of State ever, virulent anti- Communist / Islamist, tough negotiator, slaps down media, best man to follow Trump.
@iBladesi If $RWT makes it to 2029 (and I think they will) they will make it to 2031. OTOH, if BK is a serious possibility then you want to own the cheapest BBs regardless of duration b/c they will all get the same from a BK court.
