Today is #worldMEday and part of #MEawarenessweek
I’ve had this horrific disease since I was 14yrs old. A fit, health and active teenager, until I got a severe gastric flu, and never recovered.
For the last 7yrs in various ways my health has been declining, until near death
I wasn’t going to talk about this, but I thought it would have gone away by now and it hasn’t. And I know I am not the only one who has been shaken by it.
We accept we have to do hard stuff in medicine, it’s what we do. But to know that absolutely no lessons have been learned from the pandemic and we are utterly expendable in the face of a public health issue, felt like a slap round the face.
The Covid Inquiry is clear: IPC guidance failed.
Five key mistakes led to avoidable harm for healthcare workers and patients.
We cannot afford to ignore this. Read the paper by @EvonneTCurran and our chair @alitwy

I met up with a long time friend this week and his first words to me were "you look really well".
I do. And I feel healthier than I have in two decades. I feel great.
I've had nearly six and a half years without infection.
He looked *awful*. 😥
The last time I had seen him was four years ago when he still looked OK, and his first words to me that day were, "you're not still wearing one of those things, are you?" 😔
Reading just heartbreaking stories of parents being hauled through social services /child protection proceedings for suspicions of fabricated illness, when their child has long covid, POTS or dysautonomia.
Of course FII exists, and we must be an advocate for children. BUT so do children and teens with these illnesses. In their millions. Because of a pandemic virus.
When did the medical profession become so utterly fixed in their beliefs? (I know, probably forever)
The Covid Airborne Transmission Alliance (CATA) has stood down.
The Executive Team has completed its mandate from its 12 member organisations i.e. to represent them at the UK COVID-19 Inquiry.
A copy of our final letter to members is attached.

More research about Long Covid’s impact on children. Yet still no clean air or IPC in schools…..

Schools guidance on supporting children with medical conditions is being updated for the first time in 10 years. Your response can help shape how children with epilepsy are kept safe, included and supported in education. It takes around 10 minutes: https://t.co/sXnIQrAxZS
The Inquiry recognised that reporting of HCW deaths under the RIDDOR Regulations for reporting occupational disease should be better.
Sadly it didn't address the failure to report occupational infections which don’t cause deaths but leave HCWs crippled with Long-COVID.

MAJOR WINS for CATA (and true scientists everywhere!)
Complete vindication (see thread below)
BUT
There were some major omissions (see Press Release)

Today, we've written to the Secretary of State and the UK's Health Ministers about the lack of progress on implementing the Leng Review into Physician Assistants and Anaesthesia Assistants.
More than eight months on, key recommendations remain unfulfilled leaving patients unclear about who is providing their care. Doctors and patients deserve clarity.
"Chest tightness but no overt chest pain"
that well known 100% specific differentiator of anxiety vs other causes
I think day 1 of medical school you learn that 'chest tightness' can be absolutely anything.
Colossal leadership failure and nobody will be held accountable.
For anyone in doubt as to why I am emailing GP Surgeries across the UK, this is why I do it:
"Hello,
We just wanted to thank you for your email – we shared the campaign last week of the 4ts on our social media page, waiting room display and TV screens, and we do have blood glucose kits and urine tests for ketones in our clinical rooms.
We had a two-year-old in this morning with mum that presented with the symptoms listed in the campaign and after the testing you mentioned done by the GP in the initial appointment, she has been diagnosed with diabetes and admitted to hospital. The awareness shared last week made the conversation much easier for mum and GP and highlights the importance of the work you are doing.
We would like to wish you all the best with your campaign for Lyla’s Law, we will continue sharing awareness with our staff and patients, we have World Diabetes Day in the calendar for later on in the year too.
Kind regards,
xx"
