@ChennaiTraffic was issued a fine for a traffic signal violation near Gemini Circle Flyover on Cathedral Road. The same U-turn point was involved in an incident this morning where I was advised by a traffic constable to make a U-turn despite the red light, as it was red for oncoming traffic. Upon informing the traffic personnel that the light was red for U-turns, I was told that I could proceed with a U-turn since the light was also red for the oncoming traffic, and therefore it was permissible. However, in the evening, I was fined for making a U-turn at the same signal. I have no objection to paying the fine, but I believe the treatment experienced was unjust. I kindly request that regulations are applied consistently and fairly for all individuals.

Do PPIs Cause Dementia?

Current evidence does not show that PPIs directly cause dementia.
Some early studies suggested a possible link, but larger, better-designed research has not confirmed this.

What the Research Says

Older observational studies (2016–2019):
•Found an association between long-term PPI use and dementia.
•But they were NOT controlled enough to prove that PPIs were the cause.
•People using PPIs were often older and had other health conditions that may affect cognitive health.

Newer, stronger studies:

Large systematic reviews and cohort studies (up to 2023–2024) show that:
•PPIs are not linked to an increased risk of dementia or Alzheimer’s disease.
•When adjusting for age, other diseases, medications, and lifestyle factors, the association disappears.

Why confusion occurred:
•Low stomach acid might affect nutrient absorption (like B12, magnesium), which can affect brain health
→ but this is rare and usually occurs only with very long-term, high-dose PPI usage.
