Today, I signed the condolence book at the Embassy of the State of Qatar in Kathmandu, conveying, on behalf of the Government and the people of Nepal, our profound condolences on the passing of His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani of the State of Qatar.

Paying tribute to the late Father Amir as a visionary statesman whose leadership made a lasting contribution to Qatar's remarkable progress and to the strengthening of Nepal–Qatar relations, I also conveyed Nepal's heartfelt sympathies and solidarity to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Royal Family, the Government, and the people of Qatar during this time of mourning.

H. E. Dr Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates and the accompanying delegation paid a courtesy call on Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Mr Shisir Khanal, at the Ministry today.

During the meeting, the two Ministers exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations between Nepal and the United Arab Emirates across a range of areas of mutual interest, including greater cooperation in trade, investment, AI, digital transformation, tourism, labour migration, infrastructure, renewable energy as well as increased Sovereign Wealth Fund investment in priority sectors.

Hon. Foreign Minister further underscored the enduring friendship and growing cooperation between the two countries while highlighting the Government of Nepal's aspiration to make the upcoming Golden Jubilee celebration of diplomatic relations a major milestone by securing UAE investment in various projects in Nepal.

The Hon. Minister also urged the UAE Government to remove the requirement of further verification of the Police Report after attestation by the Department of Consular Services.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs today hosted the 5th Edition of the Prof. Yadu Nath Khanal Lecture Series in Kathmandu on the theme "Foreign Policy of Nepal: Navigating Geopolitical and Geoeconomic Trends."

In his keynote address, Former Prime Minister Dr Baburam Bhattarai reflected on the profound shifts reshaping the international order- intensifying major-power competition, the growing role of economic instruments and technology in global affairs, and what these mean for Nepal's foreign policy choices.

Delivering the concluding remarks, Hon. Foreign Minister Mr Shisir Khanal underscored that Nepal must approach this evolving environment with clarity, confidence and prudence- with foreign policy firmly anchored in national interest while serving the aspirations of our people.

Hon. Ministers, Members of Parliament, former ministers, heads of diplomatic missions, and distinguished guests attended the event. The programme was also livestreamed through the Ministry's Facebook and YouTube channels.

Writing in the Hindustan Times, Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane—currently visiting India at the invitation of the BJP President—calls on both nations to seize the historical opportunity presented by the upcoming March 2026 elections. He urges moving past "the anxieties of the last 30 years" to focus instead on "boundless possibilities."

Addressing bilateral tensions, Lamichhane writes that "border disputes must not drag on," and suggests resolving them "through a pragmatic, evidence-based dialogue rooted in historical facts and mutual understanding."
