Akbari Jats are a sub-group of Jats who gained their title during Mughal Emperor Akbar's reign (1556–1605) by forming alliances, often through giving daughters in marriage to the emperor or his court, elevating their social status.
Jahangiri Jats similarly obtained their title under Emperor Jahangir (1605–1627) via matrimonial alliances.
Darbari Jats, meaning "courtier" Jats, are linked to Jahangir's era, descending from families who provided daughters to the Mughal court, gaining higher grade and restrictions on inter-marriages.
These titles reflect political strategies for status and benefits like land grants, per historical accounts from Mughal and colonial records. Some views suggest British influence on the narratives.
