It's been sixty years!
This is @UNDP standing with #Nepal on a journey of six decades of progress - from its first computer to airborne essential goods and services to remote mountainous regions. (Yes, I had to fast look up what this Pilatus Porter aircraft looked like!).
And now, green energy, new jobs, governance institution systems and capabilities, and more. Guided by national priorities set by the leaders and people of this amazing country. It is a privilege to serve.

Heartiest congratulations to #Nepal on the successful conclusion of its Presidency of the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC).
At a time when the world faces multiple disruptions and development financing has come under increasing pressure, Nepal’s Presidency helped advance an agile, inclusive, and resilient development agenda while fostering consensus among member states.
This Presidency has given Nepal a credible and visible seat at the table where global development priorities are shaped. It is now important to sustain this momentum by nurturing these partnerships and leveraging Nepal’s well-earned diplomatic standing.
Deep appreciation to Amb. @LokThapa2071 and the entire team for their exemplary leadership and dedication.

We concluded today the 2026 ECOSOC High-level Segment with the adoption of the Ministerial Declaration of the High-level Segment of the 2026 session of ECOSOC with consensus, reaffirming our shared commitment to advancing the #2030Agenda.
The Ministerial Declaration reminds us that even in difficult times, dialogue can build consensus, and multilateral cooperation remains our strongest instrument for advancing sustainable development.
Over the past days, we have heard a clear call for action: to translate the Sevilla Commitment into investment for sustainable development; to harness science, technology and innovation—particularly digital transformation—in ways that are inclusive and bridge, rather than deepen, inequalities; to strengthen resilience through sustainable infrastructure, clean energy and climate action; and to empower cities, local communities and young people as partners in delivering the #SDGs. #GlobalGoals

I participated today in the event “Right to Development at 40: Catalysing Global Partnerships for Inclusive and Sustainable Development” at UN Headquarters. I stressed that sustainable development is not only a policy objective - it is a human right. With only 18% of the SDG targets on track and just four years remaining to achieve the #2030Agenda, we must translate global commitments into concrete action.
I stressed that the right to development must be mainstreamed across financing, trade, debt relief and development cooperation, that participation must be genuine, and that accountability must be strengthened. We must ensure that those furthest behind - including LDCs, LLDCs and SIDS - are not treated as recipients of charity, but as holders of rights the international community has pledged to uphold. #SDGs #RightToDevelopment #GlobalGoals

Reflecting on an extraordinary year of service, Amb. @LokThapa2071 expressed profound gratitude to Member States, the UN system, and all partners for their trust, collaboration, and unwavering support throughout Nepal's Presidency. I participated in the #HLPF side event on the pivotal role of startups in advancing innovation and leveraging partnerships for sustainable water security. I stressed that innovation alone is never enough. One of our greatest challenges is not simply generating innovative ideas, but enabling them to scale so they deliver lasting impact for people and communities. Let us ensure that today’s dialogue helps turn innovation into implementation, partnerships into investment and promising ideas into solutions that improve lives and build a more water-secure future for all. #SDG6 #GlobalGoals #2030Agenda

Over the past two weeks, we shared practical solutions, reviewed progress, and reaffirmed that achieving sustainable development requires integrated policies, stronger partnerships, and more effective international cooperation.
As we look ahead to the 2027 SDG Summit, our task is clear: accelerate SDG implementation, mobilize financing, strengthen science, innovation, and data, deepen international cooperation, and translate our shared commitments into tangible results for people and the planet. #HLPF2026 #GlobalGoals #SDGs #2030Agenda
I participated in the high-level roundtable on financing resilient agrifood systems. I emphasized that we cannot continue moving from one crisis to the next. Instead, we must invest in systems that are sustainable, resilient, and capable of delivering food security regardless of geopolitical circumstances. I also underscored that agrifood transformation must be integrated across agriculture, trade, climate, social protection, and employment policies to maximize development impact. The task now is to turn dialogue into delivery - and commitments into investment. #SDG2 #GlobalGoals #2030Agenda
