@clairebubblepop Teachers aren't being asked to teach a one off lesson on dental health - we do that already, they're being asked to make brushing teeth a part of the daily school routine every day. One teacher, 30 kids and 1 classroom sink, brushing teeth every day.
@grahamchatterl2@AnthonyNEvans couldn't agree more! That's not something maintained schools have any power over and is sadly unlikely to change any time soon.
@grahamchatterl2@AnthonyNEvans Then add in your summer borns, your children who speak English as an additional language - or don't yet speak English at all, and your SEND pupils. It isn't an excuse, but it is a reality. Completely get that as children get older and more independent this 'excuse' gets weaker
@grahamchatterl2@AnthonyNEvans In a room full of 6 years olds very few of them have the tools for independent learning, they all need adult support whether its for focus, or modelling, or encouragement, or scaffolding, or challenging. Max 2 adults to 30 children makes that hard.
@RoseUnwin If I could not work because the only school my child could attend required me to travel so far it prevented me from working I would home educate. For me. the only reason for not home educating is the financial implications not working would have.
@_MissieBee@jpembroke My daughter in both SEND and summer born (Aug) and I believe whole heartedly that if she had gone to school a year later her experience and engagement with school would have been very different (much more positive). She would still be Autistic, Dyslexic and Dyscalculic though.
@Dr_BellaR I don't know about ADHD, but in the context of Autism, my daughter experiences similar to what you have described and we have also thought about BD but her psychiatrist has said it is quite common in the context of her Autism.
14 yo reports bullying, physical and verbal, sustained over a number of weeks and writes a statement for the school. Two weeks later, no change, attacked by group on way home, filmed being beaten, phone stolen. School say - didn't happen here, can't get involved. Thoughts?!
@Dr_BellaR It's the same in many places of employment. Many schools in London don't have parking facilities for staff and they either have to get public transport or pay to park in a local authority carpark. This is much more than £59 a month!
@sendcogirl When I was SENCO in one school they didn't have any spare offices so they said I could work in the nursery storage cupboard, which it turned out was a converted toilet. The toilet was my desk!
@MrsDMaths I think schools should canvas their parents before deciding on a trip. Meet the communities needs. School's usually offer a payment plan, and financial assistance to those most in need.
@helenjwc Did they make you redundant to replace you with a less qualified, cheaper alternative, or are you leaving and this is what they are doing to fill the gap?
@MrsDMaths When I was at high school there was a trip to NYC (25 years ago), about 50% of the year group went. I didn't even tell my parents that it was happening because I knew they would get themselves in debt to find the £600 or so that it was going to cost. Did me no harm to miss it.
@sendcogirl NHS services. SALT won't take children unless you've already given intervention for a need that hasn't been assessed by a trained therapist. Peads knocking back referrals left right and centre demanding SALT first, EP first, 'fine at home.' No access to OT.
@naomicfisher I think it is probably fair to say that the many thousands of teachers leaving the profession and the many thousands of children unable to attend school are trying to communicate many of the same things about our education system
@Missymusician81 I don't know where you are based but maybe if you let your agency know that this particular school just isn't the right fit for you they would have another school for you? Where I am supplies are like gold dust!
@KateAltonWrites Not diagnosed ADHD and not hearing impaired but I love subtitles! Would always choose to have them over not having them, my husband is the same. So much easier to follow dialogue and not miss anything.
