A dad of a LS. Offering free advice to parents and players trying to navigate the recruiting and training process. So much I wish I knew 2 years ago. DMs open.
Longsnappers who have been through the recruiting process. Starting a thread to share your experiences and any insight you'd like to pass along to the next generation:
Create your recruiting wishlist. 5 nirvana schools, 5 in your zone of ability. Focus regionally. Most recruiting happens in region. Don't chase offers at a bunch of college camps. They aren't there.
Rising seniors. Continue to dial in that snap and work on speed. Begin training on post-snap. You need to be able to protect and release. Spend as much time on the post-snap as the snap. If you want to play in college, now's the time to seek professional training if able.
Rising juniors. Train for football (get stronger and faster) and put together a training plan for LS. No more than 2-3 days of live snapping with snapping funtional drills 2-3 days per week. Pick a Rubio or Kohls regional if you're interested in that path. Ignore college camps.

Be grateful for every opportunity GOD blesses you with and know the grass is green wherever your feet are and wherever 🙏🏾🗣️
I got a call from a parent yesterday. A coach from the NAIA level came out to watch his son play last Friday night. The kid has no offers. The coach was ready to offer the kid and spoke with the AD about it. The AD told the coach that the kid was better than the NAIA level, so he didn't offer.
High school administration and coaches don't kill an opportunity for a kid based on your opinion.
Types of Offers
Verbal Offer: Non-binding; can be made anytime
Committable Offer: A real, actionable scholarship
Non-Committable Offer: “We like you, but we want to see more before you commit.”
There is a huge difference. Understand which one is which. #KnowBeforeYouGo
A JUCO coach can be a P5 coach in a year. A P5 coach can be a high school coach in a year. Don't show interest or commit to a logo. Commit to those who are committed to you and your future. You can be a dime a dozen or one in a million. It's up to you which one you'll be. #Facts
- Be patient. OVs are the next step for you and they happen in Dec/Jan/Feb.
- A lot of STCs will wait until after the winter portal to think about offering HS seniors.
- Be undeniable on tape and get great grades...that's the recruiting hack.
With HS season starting, how should you engage in recruiting?
- Post weekly gane film and stats.
- Send film to any coaches where you made a connection this camp season. Short note: here's my film this week. "I was 3 for 3 on LS and had a tackle. Check it out."
🧵
‐ If you are getting gameday invites, try to make those work. They are invaluable to actually SEE the school, facilities, culture.
- Don't expect in-season offers. If you got to this point w/out a committable offer, they want to see your season reel.
🧵
Recruits:
If you think you’re too good to settle for a Division 3 program, just go to a practice or a game for some of the top D3 programs.
They still recruit size speed and athleticism.
There’s “D1” guys that choose D3 for academics and you’ll be lining up across from them. Do not big time any division.
Not getting any offers?
• Most coaches wait til end of camp szn.
• Most offers happen Fall - Spring sr yr.
• Most pre reads don’t start until July.
• Most teams check out the portal.
• Most frustration is from being unrealistic
You came away from camp season with no offers? You're in the 99% of HS snappers in the country. Most recruiting happens in Dec-Feb. Focus on strength, speed and grades. Put great things on your senior season game reel. Be undeniable when they open your hudl.
Do you know if ranking camps only posted offers they were responsible for they would never post! They have kids believing it’s more important to be ranked #1 & Flex than to have legit offers. They claim the offer even if they had nothing to do with it!
To All the Specialist Parents Out There:
I see you. I feel you. And I’m right there with you.
Our boys are being tested, not just physically, but mentally and emotionally, too. The conditioning is grueling. The competition is fierce. The expectations are sky-high. And as their parents, we carry their struggles in our hearts.
But here’s what I want to remind you (and myself) of today:
Growth doesn’t happen in comfort.
It’s in the soreness, the fatigue, the missed kicks, the rolled snaps, the shanked punts, the hard coaching, and even the silent self-doubt where something incredible is being built…resilience, grit, perseverance, and strength that lasts far beyond the field.
As hard as it is to watch them struggle, this is the fire that forges greatness.
So let’s keep showing up for them with encouragement, with love, and with belief in who they’re becoming. Let’s remind them that tough days don’t define them, they REFINE them. And let’s remind each other that we’re not alone on this journey.
These boys are warriors. And behind every one of them is a parent cheering their heart out…sometimes in silence, sometimes through tears, but always with love.
We’ve got this. And so do they.
Long snappers,
Summer college camps are fun experiences & can be great exposure for you. The reality is, a very small % will receive offers. Most are PWO. Every coach looks for specific traits. It’s not only snapping well, there is so much more.
Not all rankings camps are the same. Do your research before making the investment.
- How transparent is their assessment criteria?
- How do their top guys fare in recruiting? Where do they land?
- Where/how do they rank? I.e., do you have to travel to a national camp?
