🌼 The surprising results from our citizen science campaign are now published!
Data from 5,200+ locations revealed 9% more short-styled flowers (S-morph), linked to climate change & land use. 🌍

@mellamosummer Check out our pan-European campaign at https://t.co/BugBcJym7r :) For Estonian data from 2019 we already have a published paper: https://t.co/6gODC6qPel
Our campaign originates from Estonia, where cowslip is a beloved spring flower that is also used for tea.
While in Estonia there are plenty of cowslips to pick, it is not so everywhere, so before doing that, make sure it is okay where you are.
Here's a nice thread about cowslips:
We have now over 100 000 flowers observed!🥳
Great to see there are so many people wanting to contribute to science.
You can still make cowslip observations, so find some cowslips and send the observation data to us https://t.co/BugBcJym7r

It is the second year we are doing the cowslip campaign all over Europe. Many of you have already made many cowslip observations and are experienced.
Share your knowledge and let us know what are your tips to do the cowslip observations? 🧐
#citizenscience#lookingforcowslips
We have over 800 observations from all over Europe. In some places cowslips are almost finished flowering, in others cowslips are starting to flower.
Here are some nice photos from our observers from UK, Macedonia, Estonia and Latvia

@JoannaSD_07 Sure. Pollen from only the other type of flower can germinate, so both types of flowers are needed to reproduce. This system helps to avoid self-fertilisation. Ideally there are about equal amounts of both types in one place, but if this balance is off, something might be wrong.
Cowslips are already blooming in some parts of Europe!🌻
We have gotten observations e.g. from France, Spain, Italy, Croatia, Germany, Czech republic, Slovakia and Slovenia.
Are cowslips already flowering where you are?
