@Reform_Rebuild When we consider that at least 94% of prisoners have experienced trauma in their lives, I suspect this figure of 70% is much higher.
Prison healthcare is grim. Appropriate mental health support is non existent. Yet society wonders why people reoffend.....? 😕
@LifeOutside2017@Reform_Rebuild I wish I could say I am shocked at this. Sadly, I am not.
I'm sorry that happened to you. The word "justice" does not apply, in many ways 😔
@SuzieSAS@hmipscot Wendy is still a huge loss for families impacted by a loved ones imprisonment. She was always genuinely eager to help.
Sadly, Ms Snell doesn't even acknowledge emails, far less reply. Wendy would never have ignored a family members plea for help. Very disheartening 😢
@karynmccluskey And here we are...over a year later...and things have become so much worse....and nothing ever changes despite the headlines on the news every other night.
@AnnieWellsMSP @AConstance23 said if we build them, they'll come!"
If the alternative to early release is "build more prisons", are they going to be inflatable prisons??
We'll throw them up like a pop up tent?? Honestly?? That is your answer? I'm actually embarrassed for you!!
@AnnieWellsMSP John McKay asked 3 times, in response to you saying there should be no early release, "what's the alternative to early release?" 3 times you gave NO alternative to early release ~ out with "build more prisons!" When @fultonsnp said this isn't the answer, you laughed and said 1/2
@venetiamenzies@dundeeuni As the mum of a prisoner, birthdays and Xmas is hard. One comfort was sending a lovely card to my son..that all stopped 5 years ago because prisons don't have the technology to detect these drugs.
Just another example of decades of underfunding.
Scotland has the highest drug death rate in Europe, and half of prisoners have drug problems before being incarcerated
59 people have died in Scottish prisons due to drugs since 2016, accounting for 16% of all deaths
To learn more about how the drug trade is fuelled by corruption in prisons, I highly recommend watching Behind Bars by the talented @Mobeen_Azhar 👇

@JamesTCobbler as the mother of a prisoner, I was horrified watching this.
From the bottom to the top, our CJS needs completely overhauled. Does this fall within your remit? If it's left to Starmer, public hangings might make a return. That'll ease the pressures on prisons!
@Mobeen_Azhar - have watched your prison documentary back to back this evening.
Fantastic work.
Really troubling.
The prisons are in a real mess and need sorting
@JamesTCobbler
Please watch on iplayer
@Mobeen_Azhar it's little wonder our entire Criminal Justice System is broken...
🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️
Very brave reporting! Thank you. I'm actually quite speechless after watching Behind Bars.
🎬 New documentary with Edinburgh College highlights the realities families face when a loved one is in prison, and the vital role Families Outside plays in supporting them. 💙 Watch here: https://t.co/dVWzyKBupb

Livid Lammy can say what he likes! The suspended PO is taking the blame for YEARS of disinvestment into the Criminal Justice Service. Everyone in power should hang their heads in shame rather than blame an overworked, (likely) inexperienced, poorly paid officer!
“Language shapes reality and how we see one another.” Our latest blog dives into the words we use when talking about justice, stigma and humanity. Because words don’t just describe the world, they build it.
