Despite representing a significant portion of the rare disease community, rare liver conditions remain insufficiently recognised at the European level. Patients frequently face diagnostic delays, limited access to specialised expertise, treatments and fragmented care pathways. These challenges are further reinforced by regulatory and research gaps that slow the development and availability of new therapies, limit the generation of meaningful data, and fail to adequately reflect patients’ needs and lived experiences.

Purpose of the event

Increase political and institutional awareness of rare liver diseases and their unmet needs;
Present key challenges in diagnosis, research, and access to care;
Explore opportunities for better integration into current and future EU health and research initiatives;
Strengthen collaboration between policymakers, experts, and patient organisations;
Launch the ELPA Rare Liver Diseases Policy Position Paper.
