Today is Ukraine’s Independence Day.

For us, independence is not just a word anymore.

It is the home we refuse to give up. The language we refuse to lose. The flag we keep flying. The voice on the phone saying, “I’m alive.”

It is the empty chair at the table. The family separated by war. The years stolen from millions of Ukrainians.

We know exactly what our freedom costs. We know because we have paid for it in blood.

Today, we remember everyone who gave their life for Ukraine. We thank everyone defending it right now. And we hold on to what they are fighting for.

A free Ukraine. A whole Ukraine. A Ukraine that belongs to Ukrainians.

Happy Independence Day, Ukraine.

Freedom’s light must shine in every corner of Ukraine.
