A beloved voice. A radio man through and through. And the kindest colleague you could hope to find. @npr is 💔to share the news that newscaster Carl Kasell has died at age 84.
Deep sadness. Carl Kassell was a good man. Funny. Wise. Humble. Stylish and oh so Generous. A lot of people who never met him are going to feel like they lost a friend. That is the world he helped build at NPR and the world at large is better for it.
@samsanders Ours speaks unprompted, as well...usually some variant of "sorry, i don't know that one". Maybe its because we ask her to sing periodically.
Went to church w/my cousin yesterday, cuz Easter. Was perhaps the most diverse public gathering I've been 2 n years, much more so than ANY newsroom I've ever seen. The church has its issues, but I don't think we give enough credit to those that are getting some things very right.
@michele_norris@samsanders@michele_norris what a memory of traveling south. I hope we have reached a point where no more memories like that will ever be made...hope, but fear not yet
"Not my will, but yours be done."
It is humbling to remember:
Jesus didn't have to die, he chose to die. Christ was not a victim, he was a sacrifice. The Son of God wasn't robbed of his rights, he willingly gave up his rights.
What does white supremacy look like?
@realDonaldTrump is judged Presidential in spite of the content of his character.
@BarackObama was judged un-Presidential because of the color of his skin.
The Parkland, Fla. HS where 17 were killed is named for activist Marjory Stoneman Douglas, who fought for women's suffrage & to protect the Everglades. This banner hangs down the street. Now, a new generation there is following her creed: to "be a nuisance" and "never give up."
