The 2026 decade long restoration of the 1914 Louis Sullivan bank in Newark, Ohio was given a Palladio Award. It is fantastic. A neighboring building was purchased and physically rebuilt beyond the facade to enlarge the original bank building. hand stenciled gold leaf mosaics rebuilt where necessary. By Rogers Krajnak Architects in Columbus, Ohio.
Vale a pena ler.

Its hilarious how Alan Moore is all about magic & sorcery & breaking through the limits of human comprehension & being a shamanic anarchist who rejects your modern morality etc. but at the end of the day he's just a divorced guy from the midlands who says you should vote labour.
@SpencerRAskew I have a theory that folks who find Jane Austen dull or trivial are people who struggle to notice the intricacies of social interaction. Of course you would not appreciate the subtleties of her novels if you lack emotional intelligence.
Many Lula supporters say they want Brazil to adopt China's economic model. To achieve that, Brazil would need to cut social spending and pensions by 50% and cut government spending by 30%. It would need someone much more right-wing than Bolsonaro on economics.
It’s easy to take Jane Austen for granted because we live in the world that she created. We struggle to see how groundbreaking and innovative her novels are because they set the template for all modern fiction. Pride & Prejudice, to cite the most obvious example, did more than invent a genre. Anyone who now writes a story in which two people fall in love is either inspired by her or reacting against her. She’s like Tolkien in that sense.
But she did much more than that. She perfected a method of narration known as “free indirect discourse” that’s now used by virtually every writer. You have only to read the novels of pre-Austen writers to see what a tremendous difference she made through her use of this technique. Literary scholar John Mullan argues that Emma launched a revolution in form & technique that’s comparable to the innovations of Joyce and Proust. It is the favorite novel of Susanna Clarke and of Katherine Rundell, who calls it “a book that shows as much of the sweep of the human heart, of fear, love, morality, untruth, foolery and triumph as a Shakespearean drama.” It is also, arguably, the novel that invented the mystery genre, having what J. K. Rowling has called the biggest twist in literature. You don’t notice the greatness of Austen for the same reason a fish doesn’t know that it lives in water.
Incapaz de aceitar a realidade “crua e rude” da corte de Henrique IV, uma mulher inventa a tradição dos salões literários e contribui para lançar os fundamentos da língua francesa clássica. Quem nunca quis fazer algo parecido com os amigos?
The opening paragraph to AJP Taylor's "The Course of German History" remains my absolute favourite start to a history book. Nobody's ever hit this hard right off the bat before
