Imagine being so terminally online and ideologically captured that you genuinely believe the person who made the story has no right to clarify their own characters, push back on wild misreadings, or even exist as a human being with opinions. “Just create and shut the fuck up” is the most pathetic, bootlicking, corporate slave mentality I’ve ever seen.
They don’t want a creator. They want a silent, obedient content factory that pumps out product for them to project their identity politics onto and never, ever talks back. The second the artist says actually no, that character isn’t trans or gets tired of people harassing them over headcanons, suddenly they’re speaking out of turn like some medieval peasant who forgot their place.
To everyone who enabled/encouraged this you’re not a fan. You’re a parasite with a superiority complex who thinks owning a X account gives you ownership over other people’s art.
Creators don’t exist to be your quiet little drawing machine. They’re allowed to have thoughts. They’re allowed to tell you you’re wrong about their own work. And when they get sick of people like you treating them like malfunctioning NPCs, they’re allowed to delete the app and say fuck you.
The fact that people are celebrating an artist deactivating because she got exhausted dealing with this exact crap of unhinged entitlement says everything about you pieces of shit.
This framing is highly on Mercante's side. And it makes a lot of assumptions about legal realities that simply have not been settled yet by the judge. Every legal point is highly contested currently and not settled fact. There is no definitive outcome in the case as of yet
For anyone trying to understand the context of this. (rewrite - please read the final line before replying)
Alyssa Mercante (journalist) is suing SmashJT (YouTuber) over what she in court describes as an extended harassment and defamation campaign tied to "videogame culture war".
It pretty much boils down to allegations that he:
- repeatedly wrongly accused and defamed her across Twitter & YouTube,
- encouraged people to ostracize and target her,
- damaged her reputation and career,
- and contributed to her losing income through journalistic opportunities.
The big issue for him is that he apparently just... kept going. Publicly. Constantly.
He could have stopped being a horrible person at any time. Even after the lawsuit was filed he just never stopped Tweeting and Streaming talking about her. And there are tons of screenshots, tweets, clips, and YouTube videos documenting it.
Now from what we're seeing, he's losing major parts of the case, is reportedly closing in on $80K+ in legal debt, and could potentially end up paying punitive damages on top of that.
All because he seemingly refused to stop posting about her online, disparaging her reputation and making false accusatory tweets.
Alyssa just wanted to not be falsely accused of weird things and harassed constantly, and SmashJT didn't want to stop attacking, now he's facing consequences of his actions.
No winners here, not because Alyssa isn't going to win. But because she DESERVES more money than whatever he can pay for what he put her through.
@GodssJester It's funny. It's totally okay to taser the hell out of the aggressive fish possibly permanently damaging them. Might as well end them properly with a flesh rupturing sonic blast. I choose both personally because lol
I mean this in the kindest way possible, if you are honestly upset about this mod or even going as far as saying its comparable to colonism or genocide, you NEED to go outside, this is an extremley unhealty response
YEAH. This is what I'm talking about. Devs can say and do whatever they want. That's their right. But I can mod the fuck out of whatever I want and that's MY right. Time to COLONIZE this planet in the name of humanity! HAHAHAHAH

@valsaven I like options and want combat back in the game. Not sure where this fits within the red vs blue context however. Unless blue are the rule followers (social contract enjoyers) and red is the rejection of that contract for self interest (which is the logical end point anyways)
but asmongold's not racist tho according to 2 of his fans that DM'd me pics of him from his childhood where he had a black friend.
the other 12 people that DM'd me called me variations of "n-word" "gay slur" "wetback" and some threatened/wished for ICE to send me back to mexico.
i know he knows people like that are in his community. why is he so accepting of them tho? someone who isn't racist would tell them they don't belong in their community, right?
@NachisuMikuX And all the journos barracking for the game were born AFTER the 90's were already over or at the very least were toddlers without fully formed memories of the time. I was in high school in the mid-90's. I like the bands in the game. I don't like my era being sold back to me
The reason why people are upset is because people like you. Calling people a weirdo for pointing out the obvious.
That mixtape is a walking simulator that’s getting what most would consider undeserved praise because actually NOT a video game.
I was a teenager in the 90's. I recognize all the bands that feature and even like most of them. It does feel like some kid born in 2002 is looking back on my era and trying to sell it back to me. No thanks
If you're mad at this score you're outing yourself as never having hobbies, never having a friend group, never having a relationship and never being able to just stare at the ceiling with a buddy talking about life.
