@MarcusBuffett@chessbookcom I love your software, and gladly pay for it. But it has been "down" for more than 12 hours now, without any info / status update. Could you shed some light on what's going on, and when your users might be able to use it again?
@MarcusBuffett@chessbookcom Oh so just self-recovered? Interesting. May have been local to me, I guess, but I replicated it with the mobile app on 5G as well as on my broadband. Is there a CDN in the mix? Wonder if there was an issue with one particular pop? Anyway, all good now!
@MarcusBuffett@chessbookcom All appears to be fixed now - thank you. As someone who does SRE for a living, I'm genuinely curious about what contributed to what I observed as unavailability of the service. Are you able to share anything?
Selection on the dependent variable: You can't identify patterns that contribute to failure if you only look at the failure cases, because any patterns that you detect might be just as prevalent in the successful cases, and you'll never know because you didn't look at those.
I'm not saying growth is essential. It may be that right now a person doesn't need to be stretched, and a low level of RPE is appropriate. What I am saying is that being intentional and aware of our RPE in the professional context is probably a good thing to develop.
I've been musing on engagement and exertion in our professional lives. I think there's a correlation between rate of perceived effort and position on a growth S-curve. Using Borg's scale (6-20, 12=moderate, 19=v.hard) and reflecting on your professional exertion, where are you?
In order to grow, we need to be being stretched - our level of exertion should be mid teens, probably. It's worth reflecting on, and seeing what shows up.
As a lifelong org-mode user, now almost entirely migrated to Obsidian, this advanced table plugin was a very welcome discovery: https://t.co/0SJ0BBiMyO
@DivineOps Is the inverse true? If you miss the core value, user tolerance for bugs and limitations, even small ones, is super-low? Maybe tracking bug/feature-disparity acceptability is a good proxy for value delivery?
A glorious and stimulating evening of debate and delicious food with @cyetain@littleidea@DivineOps and @stevemcghee - so enjoyable I've even emerged from twitter hibernation to celebrate it!
@yverry @Kuqd Webscale. Obviously ;) I guess I just mean ยซย non trivialย ยป ... if you consider our business model is self-inflicted denial of service, globally, multiple times a week, you can imagine our telemetry scale is non-trivial.
