“Golden Brown” hides two subjects inside the same lyric. Hugh Cornwell later explained that it referred both to heroin and to a Mediterranean woman whose skin inspired the title, allowing desire and addiction to blur together throughout the song. Dave Greenfield’s harpsichord melody and shifting rhythm made it sound unlike anything The Stranglers had recorded before, and the band’s label initially resisted releasing it. This performance at Rock in Athens in 1985 shows how naturally such an unusual studio creation became part of their live set.
So proud of Ten News political editor @AshleighRaper for doing her job without fear or favour at the @AngusTaylorMP news conference today.
Standing up to bullying press secretaries takes guts.
Well done Ash.
Angus Taylor’s media man calling 10’s Ashleigh Raper “a fricking disgrace” for asking the Opposition leader about the NSW ICAC inquiry was a special moment this morning. 👀 I suspect there’s more to come.
After spending years writing songs rooted in quirky characters and places, The B-52's took a different approach with "Roam." Instead of celebrating one destination, the song embraced the joy of exploring the world itself, encouraging listeners to keep moving and discovering new experiences. Included on Cosmic Thing, its uplifting harmonies and infectious melody helped make it one of the band's biggest international hits. This live performance captures the carefree spirit that has kept "Roam" a concert favourite for decades.
🖤 Elliott Smith forever. 🖤

This is Gary — Glen Hansard’s brother — from the funeral today. He says a few words and then sings. It’s absolutely gorgeous and very moving.
I haven’t seen this one and a couple of people were asking for it. Definitely worth a watch. ❤️
Here are some of the songs I've been listening to this summer. It starts with a song Michelle and I love by Glen Hansard, a great musician who passed tragically this week. Our hearts go out to his family.
What is it about The Hills district of NW Sydney ? The place is infested with religious cranks, zealots, nutters: the Exclusive Brethren, the Hillsong mob, Opus Dei Catholics, Jehovah’s Witnesses…a madhouse of god-bothering.
🎶 So fill to me the parting glass
And drink a health whate'er befalls
Then gently rise and softly call
Good night and joy be to you all 🎶
Good night, Glen and Sláinte. 🥃💚
