@Mama_M1903 Yeah I mean I don't remember hearing Marvel humour or someone doing shit like this in the games every 5 minutes. Also your point about despite this being funny, many of the "comedy" moments were trying to be serious or cool.

I feel like Leon used to be the coolest RE protagonist and the remakes changed a lot of what made him cool in the first place.

Maybe I'm just feeling Leon fatigue or maybe the larpers ruined it.

The first film was thematically an RE film.

You had the T-Virus, Raccoon city, you had the umbrella peons, the horrible human experiments, the Licker, hordes of zombies, the dogs infected and attacking.
The practical effects looked great, the music was creepy.

The new Resident Evil movie wasn't as atrocious as people were saying and was actually a pretty okay horror movie. However it isn't a good RE movie. You could remove every tiny reference and change the names and it would be a decent body-horror zombie film at best.

@raianvalerius I mean that is totally fair too. TBH, I've been one of the more critical RE fans as of late, and I am really starting to feel the fatigue of modern RE. So when you said "feels like the remakes", I got a little put off of it LMAO. But I suppose giving it a fair shake is good too.

First Impressions Resident Evil movie review:
- its like a bunch of horror shooter qte & cutscene pov compilations : the movie
- it visually and aesthetically feels like the remakes a lot of times, particularly imo re 7. color grading is nice though
- its as dark as re 7 sometimes, and has the same sense of humor that kinda doesn’t really land…? 🧍‍♀️
- without spoilers there is a line that is about at the level of mcu humor that is just 🗿
- i am very resident evil brained so i see the references if i try, but otherwise i dont know if a normal person who watches this will understand what kind of universe RE really is
- what lore elements are used are just names without context. not even the branding? i expected that much but literally they might as well have slapped the name ‘leon’ on a random cop
- sound design is really really good and is the strongest part esp the first half… the long periods of silence are overdone sometimes
- i feel like i can’t praise the shots even if they were good because they kinda just look like a cut and paste of many game povs, from the zoom, panning, to the visual guidance
- overall right now my initial impression is. so vague. i don’t exactly hate it but it is leaning towards ‘OK horror but not really resident evil’. i guess to a normal person this would be entertaining / cool like a theme park ride and that’s it
- it feels like a recontextualized shell, i really want to like it but… eh
- the sad part is i feel like it would have worked if they didn’t try to lean so hard into “omg look video game mechanic!!!” why am i watching cutscenes
- this doesn’t make sense without context/spoilers but, william birkin
