I was an evangelist at Rackspace. Datacenter company. And now tons of people view me this way.

"Datacenter fornicator," the diddy says.

The story that hasn't been told well is that datacenters can bring a lot of tax revenue to your community, if negotiated properly.

Plus your kids might notice their latency rocks because they are so close to the datacenter so their video games run better in the future.

And communities that get them see employment and quality of life rise.

And there are ways to minimize the noise and poor sightlines. I know it is possible because if you are across the street from Apple's headquarters you can't even see the huge building, they hid it with trees and fences.

These stories aren't being told/heard now. But watch what happens over a couple of years to the belief systems of humans.

I see it in San Francisco. Having autonomous vehicles here is boring now. OK, OK, we get it. You don't have the future yet.

Remember that a lot of people in San Francisco are autistic.

I have an autistic son.

He has won every argument we have ever had in his 18 years here on earth.

He will just torture you to death softly. And he is very persistent.

Where I am going with this is the video is an indication of human education and belief. One is in one reality. The other is in a totally different reality.

For instance.

Datacenters are core to modern society. They should be places of celebration. Put a park on top of them. Stop being so damn cheap and invest a bit in the community in which you are sticking them.

My mom gave me great advice when I was in high school debate club: "be able to argue both sides convincingly."

The datacenter companies have done an awful job of selling them.

Kaiser is building a new huge hospital near my home. Probably costs billions in steel alone.

Do I view that as ugly?

No. I view it as someone just invested $2 billion in my neighborhood.

How is that a bad thing?

All new things in life will come out of those datacenters.

They should be celebrated, not derided.

But I know I'm in the smaller group. I hope we can convince more to join the group that supports our future, rather than getting less and less relevant on the world's stage.
