John Stapleton was the ultimate professional. A brilliant broadcaster and journalist. But he also showed respect to everyone he worked with. That is why former colleagues are so sad today. He was part of the team and we were all privileged to know him.
Veteran broadcaster John Stapleton has died this morning aged 79, after a battle with Parkinson's disease.
Here he is interviewing Margaret Thatcher for Sky News in 1989.

So sad to hear John Stapleton - our ‘Stapes’ has died. He was such a brilliant broadcaster and I loved working with him on GMB. A genuinely lovely man, it was good to see him when he came in just a few months ago to talk about his Parkinson’s diagnosis. He’ll be much missed 😔
Devastated to hear the news about our brilliant friend + colleague John Stapleton. A few of us old brekkie gang had lunch just a few weeks ago. It was so so special, even more so now we lost him. John was everything you’ve read and more. All my thoughts with Nick + his family
Very sorry to hear about the death of John Stapleton. He was a great journalist, superb broadcaster, and a top bloke. His only flaw was he was a @ManCity fan, and as he would expect, I hope Arsenal beat them today by way of a tribute. RIP John.
Our friend and colleague John Stapleton died in hospital on Sunday morning at the age of 79.
In a broadcasting career that spanned five decades, John Stapleton was one of ITV’s most trusted and respected news journalists and a much loved face of breakfast television.
We are saddened to hear of his passing and we send our love and very deepest sympathies to his family and friends, as well as his many colleagues who will always remember him fondly.
We will be paying tribute to him on tomorrow's GMB.
