@davidpattersonx A bold prediction. Unfortunately, I don't see how this could possibly happen. First you would need to produce and build maintenance infrastructure for billions of robots by 2030. You are also assuming that current AI models can hope to match the power & efficiency of the brain.
@VladVexler You might want to listen to Michael Levin and Denis Noble on this topic in biology. Super interesting material on how obsession with genetics and proteins has pushed aside other parts of biology. Notably, biology as a system that collects and communicates information.
@NilesSankey I think its doable, but the distant terrain drawing would have to be pretty sophisticated to maintain visual consistency while traveling. You might need to feed the distant terrain data into some kind of pixel art creation system for it to work out.
@timsoret I wouldn't say that "there isn't anything remotely close" to this style, but I do like it. It looks like an AI trained on (other people's) pixel art was asked what a retro open world game looks like. This is something I would like to see someone pull off in full 3D in practice.
@baptisttexan I agree, the indie games do not have the same *exact* feel as the AI video. However, its full open world maps vs a short video. Its a couple orders of magnitude difference in complexity. I want to see if it is possible for either party to replicate the style with a full 3D map.
@ShitpostRock I am actually impressed at how the AI style combines the 3D Daggerfall look with a 2D pixel painting for the "distant terrain". Would be a difficult challenge to try and pull off that specific direction for a full open world map.

@niko_kukushkin If you could turn biology into an equation, where would that actually get you? Because biology seems to be almost like a design. You can solve for x, but that doesn't explain what x represents or why the cell/proteins/signals are producing x to begin with.

@niko_kukushkin The reasons and logistics behind it could be completely different, but so long as there are multiple ways to store information inside a cell it would be strange for evolution to only end up using one of them from an engineering standpoint. (4/4)
@niko_kukushkin So far these all require a constant source of power or the stored information is lost. Then you finally have the long-term hard disk space that holds information even while the computer is off. So each step is a tradeoff between speed vs storage capacity & cost. (3/4)
