It's the end of #turtle season 2022/23! A massive well done to our Conservation Interns for all their hard work 👏💪

They have counted and raked over 14,000 turtle tracks, counted over 4,500 nests and saved over 100 stranded turtles throughout this season!

With July now upon us, we are now celebrating the end of another successful year of #seaturtle monitoring! 🐢🤩Here is a summary of our 2022/2023 turtle season:

Recently our conservation interns have been deploying temperature loggers into #GreenTurtle nests to determine the sex of hatchlings🌡️
This ongoing data will contribute to our understanding of how #climatechange may be impacting our turtle population🐢 #smallislandBIGVISION

Ascension's green turtles are busy making their nests. This process can take many hours, leaving some turtles active on the beach after the sun comes up. We affectionally call these turtles, 'dawnies'.

I've had an amazing 5 weeks with @conserveturtles #Tortuguero for my @MarineVertsMSc research project. My study focusses on predicting the primary sex ratio of the green #turtles at this important nesting beach. Met inspiring people and gained invaluable experience. Pura Vida! 🇨🇷

Today marked 4 weeks since I arrived in Costa Rica for my MSc research project #fieldwork! Some highlights include nest excavations, hatchlings and working a turtle that was first tagged in 1988! @conserveturtles All fieldwork conducted with relevant training and permits.

Over 1/2 way! Week 3 of fieldwork brought green turtle excavations (pictured leucistic unhatched turtle at stage 2 of development) and the highest no. of nests in a night so far this season. Excavations completed with necessary training & permits @conserveturtles @MarineVertsMSc

Week 2 of my @MarineVertsMSc
research project #fieldwork flew by! I was lucky enough to take part in 2 hawksbill hatchling releases, many night patrols and learn lots about the Coastal Jaguar Conservation's work studying the relationship between #jaguars and nesting #seaturtles

Had an amazing first week in Costa Rica with @conserveturtles for my @MarineVertsMSc research project fieldwork; carrying out night patrols, tagging green turtles, morning track surveys & excavating hawksbill nests
(All fieldwork completed with relevant permits and training)
