I don't know why we keep imagining that we really have a say in how this country should be run.

The political system is set up in such a way that it identifies for us SOMEONE to hate so much we end up ELECTING anything into office.

Personally, I wasn't shocked by the hundreds of calls, articles I read, heartfelt messages I received when my party leader, Raila Odinga, died, and why, if he were alive, “we would have voted for him” now because we had no idea “Aki Raila was a good man” “ so he was this generous?” etc.

My advice to those who want to capture power is simple: dont waste your time coming up with fancy manifestos or rosy promises; brand your opponent as the only reason why those you want to govern are poor, and if and when he is gone, their problems are gone.
Democracy and constitutionalism sound sexy and appealing, but only on paper; it works best for those who know how to work it.

Sadly, the majority of our voters are average thinkers and highly emotional. They will vote you out of office in the morning, go to their shambas in the afternoon, and in the evening sit and tell each other how “tumefunza adabu huyo Jamaa,” wait for another five years, and do exactly this! Wash. Rinse. Repeat!

This is a nation built on lies. This is a country built on ethnic nationalism disguised as democracy. Wonder why leaders can't just emerge unless they go back home and be endorsed?!

Anyway… what do I know? 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️
