🚨OUTRAGE IN PENNSYLVANIA: A heroic pediatric doctor who spent his life saving critically ill children was stabbed to death in his own bed—and his wife is fighting for her life in the hospital right now.

His name was Dr. Idris Evans. He was 46 years old.

As a pediatric critical care physician at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, Dr. Evans ran the team that transports the sickest children and babies in the region—kids so critical they need specialized care just to survive.

Just after midnight on Thursday, police say 32-year-old Elijah Hemingway forced his way into the family’s Edgewood home, made his way to the third floor, and viciously attacked Dr. Evans and his wife while they were sleeping in their bed.

His wife told police they fought back with everything they had. During the struggle, she managed to yell for their two young children, ages 8 and 12, to run for help. Both children made it out alive.

Their father didn't.

When first responders arrived, they found Dr. Evans and his wife with multiple stab wounds. Dr. Evans tragically passed away from his injuries, while his wife remains in critical condition tonight.

A police dog tracked Hemingway hiding behind a nearby house with cuts on his hands. He is now charged with criminal homicide, aggravated assault, burglary, and criminal trespass.

The outrage over this tragedy is explosive—because Hemingway should never have been on the street.

Back in July, Hemingway was arrested for a February home break-in where he forced his way into an ex-partner's home and stole her laptop and cellphones. Facing felony burglary and theft charges, he was released on a NONMONETARY bond. Not a single dime required. He simply walked out.

Now two young children are left without a father, a devoted wife is fighting for her life, and a community has lost a man who dedicated his life to saving sick babies.
