To me, it will always be “Lake Ontario”

Lake Ontario is a magnificent name, one of ancient and almost mystical memory, whose roots reach back into the languages of the Indigenous peoples of the region

The exact etymology is not entirely certain, but the name is generally traced to the Huron-Wendat language and a form such as Ontarí’io, often interpreted as “great lake” or “beautiful lake”

Over the centuries, the term passed through different spellings and European transcriptions before becoming the name we know today: Ontario

It is a name that predates the United States and the modern political geography of North America by centuries

A name born from the history and languages of the peoples who lived along the shores of the Great Lakes, long before any idea of renaming them according to the politics of the moment

And indeed, throughout history, there have been attempts to change or replace the name

But Ontario has remained Ontario

“Lake America” may be a name imposed from above

But some names have a resilience of their own

Ontario is one of them 💜🧡

The iconic design of the BIC Cristal has remained virtually unchanged since its introduction in 1950.

BIC began with Marcel Bich and Édouard Buffard, who purchased a factory near Paris in 1945 and initially manufactured parts for mechanical pencils and fountain pens.

After recognizing the potential of the relatively new ballpoint pen, Bich set out to create a version that could be produced cheaply, reliably, and on a massive scale.

In 1950, they introduced the BIC Cristal in France. Its transparent hexagonal barrel allowed users to see the remaining ink, while its simple construction kept production costs low. The basic design has remained remarkably similar ever since.

BIC eventually applied the same philosophy—simple, inexpensive, disposable, mass-produced products—to other categories, launching the BIC lighter in 1973 and its first one-piece razor in 1975.

Today, the Cristal remains one of the world’s most recognizable examples of industrial design, with its basic form largely unchanged since 1950.

At just 18 years old, Warrick Dunn lost his mother, Baton Rouge police officer Betty Smothers, who was killed in the line of duty.

Overnight, he stepped up to help raise his five younger siblings while still in high school and later college, all while pursuing his dream of playing in the NFL.

He succeeded on the field, but his true legacy was built off it. Honoring his mother’s dream of homeownership, Dunn used his NFL success to help hundreds of single mothers and their families. He has funded down payments, furnished homes, and provided stability to more than 145 families in need.

Warrick Dunn turned his deepest pain into purpose, giving other families the security and opportunity his own family lost far too soon.
