Veterans Day - The cutter, Spencer ordinarily escorted convoys in the Atlantic and Pacific. It was the only Coast Guard ship to sink a German U-Boat in WWII. LT. Peter Edge (Saul Ewing, Chicago) was a Navigator on the Spencer.

The first 0f Saul Ewings 28 veterans was J Hamiliton Lewis who served in the Army during the Spanish American War. He was a Colonel on the staff of the Comanding General in Cuba. Between terms in the U,S. Senate he was a partner in the Firm's Chicago Office.

Veterans Day - Fred Denberg, John Ewing and Sam Ewing, all from the Firm's Philadelphia Office, were awarded a Bronze Star Medal in WWII

Veterans Day - At Saul Ewing we have 28 veterans from the Spanish American War thru the Korea.There is one Purple Heart recepient.Frank McAleer(Chicago Office). He enlisted in WW II at age 17.He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge, taken prisoner, a POW until the War's end

One day in 1960 I was wandering thru a store in Chicago and spied & then paid $3.00 for this huge (20"x14") Winnie-The-Pooh coloring book.Itwas tucked away and came to light recently. A book seller is ofering one,not in the mint condition that mine is, for $100,Mine is for sale.

In 1945 the Chicago Cubs and the Detroit Tigers played 7 games in in the World Series. I was an usher at the last 4 played in Chicago. The Cubs lost. Here are the Cubs autographs.

SEA&L History - In 1925 the Firm's Chicago office represented the Chicago Shriners Club in a $6M "mega" real estate deal - building the 42 story Medinah Athletic Club, completed in 1929, which was topped by a gold dome with a docking port for dirigibles

SAU&L History-This refrigerator magnet of the Firm's cow (see 1/22/2019 Tweet) was one of the best sales tools the Firm had. Visitors were given one or more magnets along with a cow brochure which included information about the firm.

SEA&L History-Celebrating a Century.- In 1921 Messrs. Saul, Ewing, Remick & Saul (below) opened a law office in Philadelphia with that name. Subsequently the firm became Saul Ewing. In 2017 it merged with Arnstein and Lehr, established in 1893, to form Saul, Ewing Arnstein & Lehr

SEA&L Octogenarians - LAL -Handled litigation in 54 0f the 50 states and Puerto Rico. Tried my last case in 2013,at age 85. Became Partner Emeritus in 2014 and over the next two years worked on two appeals and negotiated the sale of a multi million business.

SEA&L History - Veterans- The late Frank McAleer, of the Chicago Office, is the only POW among the Firm's Vets. He was an under age enlistee and at age 17 was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and taken prisoner by the Germans. He was released at the end of the war.

SEA&L History - The Firm's 125 year Attorney-Client relationship with Sears has ended. It began in 1895 when Chicago founding partner, Albert Loeb (below), prepared the docs which reorganized Sears. In view of Sears sad demise, the Firm no longer has any active Sears matters.

SEA&L Octogenarians - After retirement Leo Arnstein continued to work on almost a daily basis until his passing in 1993 at age 86. His unique compensation was payment of his dues and lunch tabs at his private club where he met with old clients giving advice leading to new work.

SEA&L Octogenarians - In 1960 Maurice Saul,age 77, retired as manager of the Philadelphia office. He continued work and a lawyer,who worked there,confirmed that he continued to work at least into the middle 60's when he was in his 80's.Thus, becoming the Firm's 1st Octogenarian

SEA&L History - In the 1960's and into the 70's, Afternoon Tea was served in the Baltimore office. At 3 PM a cart, with a silver tea service and cookies, was trundled down the aisles by a server in a black dress and a white apron.

SEA&L Octogenarians - 81 year old Sheldon Satisky has been with the Firm's Baltimore office for 55 years. A recognized authority on trusts and estates, he concentrates his practice on sophisticated estate planning, wills and trusts, probate and trust administration.
