En 1830, un Américain asservi, Josiah Henson s'est enfui au Canada. Il passa le reste de sa vie à aider d'autres anciens esclaves, à développer des fermes. Lors de la rébellion de 1837, il commanda également une bande de milice noire. À l'âge de 93 ans, il mourut à Dresden, Ont.

In 1830, enslaved American, Josiah Henson fled to Canada. He spent the rest of his life assisting other former slaves, particularly in the development of farms. During the Canadian Rebellion of 1837, he also commanded a black militia band. He died in Dresden, ONT at age 93
