Our neutrality is a core value in Ireland, a commitment to peace and diplomacy over war and destruction. In pushing to scrap the Triple Lock, this govt is betraying all this, removing the last protection against Ireland being drawn into foreign wars. We can't allow this to happen
The academic being uncritically regurgitated is this guy: DCU lecturer Christian Kaunert.
In the piece he does the usual scaremongering about China and Iran being threats to Ireland.
Here he is in Tel Aviv talking about how the EU needs to partner with Israel…
In just over a decade, Micheál Martin has gone from claiming the Triple Lock is at the core of Irish neutrality to describing those who defend it as 'guilty of demagoguery'.
The Fianna Fáil leadership are clearly under pressure.

'A small network of well-connected insiders, representing some of the world's most powerful arms corporations, has secured sustained access to government while operating behind a facade of independent expertise.'

@FineGael Nothing but spin and lies from @HMcEntee as usual. If Ireland joins a mission without a UN mandate it will *not* be a peacekeeping mission. It'll be peace enforcement. In other words we'll be party to a conflict, not even a little bit neutral.
@BarryAndrewsMEP@defenceforces No Ireland should not participate on one side of a Lebanese civil war. Such ill advised nonsense is exactlywhy we need to keep the Triple Lock.
There is a media campaign from FFG and the press to guilt trip the public over the Triple Lock.
Sob stories everywhere about how tragic it is that the Triple Lock prevents continued Irish participation in a peace-loving "anti-arms smuggling" mission. 😭😭😭
Big fat liars. ⬇️
This thread is essential reading, cuts to the heart of the weird govt spin on Operation Irini, which they're using as propaganda to sell scrapping the Triple Lock. 👇👇👇
Relentless whining and fake news from the government parties about the sunset of Operation Irini's UN mandate.
They say it shows why we need to get rid of the Triple Lock. It actually shows why we need to keep the Triple Lock? Why? Read on. 🧵⬇️
@BeibheannKelly Thanks for checking. I've just replaced the linktree link with template text and email list as this is proving very unreliable for some reason! Usually works okay!
Poor Decision Making & Judgement On Deployment Of Defence Forces Personnel During #FuelProtests -Can We Trust Same Decision Makers On Deploying Our Troops Overseas In Absence Of #TripleLock ? Now Is NOT Time For Ireland To Abandon UN Missions -Referendum On #Neutrality Needed Now
As Fianna Fáil TDs write to Micheál Martin because the 'social contract is strained to breaking point', and the EU militarises at an unprecedented rate, how could anyone think it was wise to remove the Triple Lock?
National demo this Saturday, 18th April.
@LouthNeutrality have created two email templates to send to FF and Independent TDs calling on them not to support the Government's effort to remove the Triple Lock.
Now is the time to remind them that the majority support the TL and neutrality.

Everyone in Ireland needs to read this and share widely. Especially with people who are confused by the government's intentionally confusing spin on the Triple Lock.
This is a v helpful resource from @Neutrality_Now.
It explains why the Triple Lock is more important than ever, addresses misinformation coming from the government & media, and answers questions that repeatedly came up during the Neutrality Roadshow.

The author objects to sending out the army against protestors not because it is extreme, but because it weakens the argument for increased defence spending.
The author is co-founder of Security Ireland, another think tank that provides analysis for the defence-tech industry.
To every ghoul who pushes for Ireland to join NATO 👇
Journalist: "When Trump threatened to kill the entire Iranian civilization, did that bother you as a diplomat?"
NATO head: "I'm not commenting. What I want you to know is I support the president."
We are still collecting signatures to the open letter to Micheál Martin on maintaining the Triple Lock. It’s open to sign for academics & university workers across the island of Ireland and those living and working overseas.

@JohnOBrennan2@PBresnihan No current government party or Independent campaigned on scrapping the Triple Lock. To believe that simply being elected gives them a mandate to do whatever they want is to reject democratic accountability.
Over 400 academics have signed a letter calling on Taoiseach Micheál Martin to reconsider plans to scrap the Triple Lock.
The Triple Lock sets out the conditions under which more than 12 Irish troops can participate in overseas peacekeeping operations.
