America has paid reparations and recovery aid before: to Japanese Americans interned during WWII, Holocaust survivors, Native tribes through settlements, 9/11 victims, farmers, banks, foreign nations, and countless corporations through bailouts and subsidies.

So why is repairing the descendants of American slavery suddenly “too much”?

And if America truly wants to end “handouts,” then let’s have the full conversation. White Americans make up the largest share of food stamp and Section 8 recipients by raw numbers, yet the descendants of slavery are always the face attached to welfare talking points and political propaganda.

Meanwhile, Black Americans were locked out of land grants, redlined out of neighborhoods, denied FHA loans, excluded from wealth-building programs, and economically sabotaged for generations.

There are over 40 million Black Americans whose families survived slavery, Jim Crow, segregation, and economic exclusion. Repair is not a handout. It is a debt owed.
