No, local minima are not rare in high dimensions. This is only true when all components are independently distributed. If your components are independently distributed, then you don't need a vector representation of your entity in your model bc it's just a bunch of scalars.

A real model nontrivially couples all components. A real objective function has a minimum. If neither of these things are true, your model is wrong.
