Best practice is to take to a professional, which is why I'm doing it myself. Tape off fretboard, use metal file to get the rough spots and then VERY fine sandpaper to finish. Last DIY project I attempted was changing the battery in laptop. It only smoked a little bit 🔥

Pretending to be a guitar luthier today. I have 'fret sprout'. Can happen over time when guitar is in a dry environment, causing wood to contract, leaving metal frets to stick out. If bad enough, playing the guitar can feel like wrestling a rose bush. Real pros take strings off.
